Live Stoner Chat GMO Test Kits

Can I just say first that this is only my opinion and I'm not after a flame war with anyone at all.

Bear in mind our very own autoflowers have been genetically modified through generational selection at the very least.

I do not agree that GMO foods are a bad thing for humanity, the majority of the world's population do not have enough to eat, they starve!

We are in the lucky position of living in 1st world countries and can choose what we eat based on taste/beliefs/morals as opposed to eating to survive.

If we redefine genetic modification for this argument and say we're only talking about organisms that have been genetically altered in laboratories instead of through breeding then we can't go any earlier than the discovery of DNA in the 1940's and realistically we can't call something truly a lab modified organism until genome mapping and chromosome sequencing became a realistic commercial possibility with more powerful computers from the early 1990's onwards.

We are now in the position that the presumption that GMO's are safe is rightly being questioned, definitive proof of whether they are safe or unsafe does not yet exist.

There has been nowhere near enough research on the effect of each modification as a whole or as part of multiple modifications to each specific plant on humans. Each one would need to be done individually and Monsanto, for example, if they have really bothered to do human research, aren't telling us much at all.
Want to bet human testing is taking place right now on entire populations in the poorer countries of the world who don't have as many hungry lawyers as we do?

Equally on the other side of the argument there is a lot of pseudo science and unproven claims being used by the anti-GM movement, much like that youtube video. I can't find any scientific sources for the claims made in this video, the one's I've found that are close to what's in the video are either inconclusive or just one scientist's opinion, no collective scientific opinion which in my view makes the video just anti-GM propoganda.

The main reason to alter the genetics of a food crop is to allow it to thrive in climates and conditions it would not normally be found and to increase the size of harvest.
Pest resistance is another use but the safety risks of doing that has to be balanced against the proven hazards of pesticides which imo are a much greater threat than any genetic modification.

Feeding the world seems like a fair enough reason to modify food crops but the problem is that it costs a lot to achieve and is only really a viable option to large multinationals.

Whether we trust them or not is a whole different argument!

I personally don't think it's worth the deaths of generations of humans who don't get to choose where they are born on our planet because those of us lucky to be where we are are a little bit worried that we might lose a year or two off our already overextended life spans.

I guess you could say I'm a humanist who genuinely believes the brotherhood of man applies to the world as a whole :peace:

It's your health not mine. As a whole the FDA is providing slow kill on purpose. Population Control in my opinion shouldn't be supported. I literally had countless ailments before I changed my way of eating. Serious Depression, Fatigue, Inflammation, headaches, soreness, etc...Now that I eat healthy I am healthy.

Alot of Americans smoke cigarettes are obese and abuse drugs just to name a few things. while other people around the world are dieing. "American's" or 1st world don't really give two shits about their health. I feel my health is my most important asset to me. I'm sure other's feel the same way I do.
I not only want to feel good when I wake up and face the world. I want to know that I'm as healthy as I can be. I don't want to feel ill all day. Who the fuck wants that.

A lot Non-GMO crops exist that are resilient to mother nature. Drought resistant, heavy yielding, etc...

I respect your opinion, Bilbo. We should be grateful we are lucky enough to be in a society where we get to pick and choose what we want to eat but lets keep it real...the food they give us(in the USA at least) is so bad for you that you might really want to start having a 3rd world country "diet".

Yes you are right about the main reason to alter genetics is to survive climate conditions...that does not mean put wax on my apple to make it look good on the shelf...that Does not mean add stuff in my orange juice to make it last 2 months in my fridge. For you to consume GMO foods it's like whatever do what you want to do its your body but to say its not harmful to humanity is crazy. lol

I'm all with you on the healthy eating, no processed foods, sugars, flour, concentrates, etc. in our house but I've seen 3rd world diets and been to Ethiopia during a famine. I wouldn't wish that on anyone, ever and if GM rice or wheat can help then....!

We can choose what we eat but how do we know what is genetically modified unless it's labelled voluntarily?

My apparently organic fresh blueberries could have been modified for all I know so I agree we should be told what is and isn't but who would we trust to tell us?
I'm trying to find the happy medium without having to genetically map everything I buy against an "original" map for each strain of each food.

With great power comes great responsibility. Corny I know haha but definitely applies here. There are those which are using these techniques to improve this world and the lives of the people in it, and theres those who are just interested in profit. Can be tricky to tell the two apart I think. We need more study and science on the subject, but independant and subjective.

There's good and bad in everything. Corn was inedible at one time. What we need is open dialog and the truth, to figure out which is good and bad

Fugg it..grow ya own food! :Sharing One:

Been thinking bout planting some veggies for the kids.

I grow my own and support my local organic non-GMO farmers and gardeners. Winter sucks though, cause I have to go back to the big box stores again and more often. :( Hope to convert half of my tent energies to herbs and veggies
