Yeah, I was talking in general terms. When they're really young I like to water more often to make sure I dont indadvertedly dry out the root development. But a dry'ish condition forces the root to search out for water, so the plant's energy is directed to root making. Once it finds how "far" it can go, then in starts pumping growth upwards. This effect is very very noticeable in coco, so you can take advantage of it. A bit tricky to find the sweet spot, but not hard to figure out. The bigger the root system, the bigger the plant!
I do water more often, but mainly to keep the pH from drifting, I also feed at pH 5.5 until the second or third pairs of leaves show up, then up to 5.7-5.9 mid flower, where I raise to 6.0 - 6.3. I've never heard of cal mag def due to dry coco... could be your brand of coco is not washed and pH buffered..? I use Canna Pro +... But doesn't really matter as long as you've got it locked down
