Indoor Grow Journal: Auto White Widow & Auto Amnesia Haze (Closet Grow)

Day 7 Update

Hey everyone.
Just a quick update. Not a great deal to report other than my White Widow is looking much better since I staked her up with a chopstick. All three plants are looking good with the second set of leaves coming on strong. I have however noticed some signs of heat stress on both of the Amnesia Hazes, mainly curling of the leaves. Being the derp that I am sometimes I neglected to keep track of the temp in the closet. Just went and checked and it was touching 35 degrees. CRAP. Hopefully I have caught it early enough to not do any lasting damage to the girls. I have managed to reduce the temp down to around 28 degrees by raising the light from 11inches up to 15 and increasing the airflow. The humidity is currently sitting at around 55%.

Sorry for the crappy pics. I will take some better ones later in the week.

Yo, The girls are still looking a little stressed by heat. How long do you think it would take for a plant to recover from that? Currently they sit at around 27-28 degrees c. Is that ok?

Hi Prof, Those temps shouldn't be a problem- warm, yes, but unless you have the light right down near them, not excessive. How far IS the light? And, where is the temp being taken? Plant level, above, on floor? Most all of my seedlings' first leaves are odd shaped, and usually wavy. The next leaf sets will show more clearly if there is heat stress. The seeds I just popped are about the same size, and shape. I'll be putting up a journal this week. Yours are starting down the road!

In my noobie opinion....I think its more humidty need -- rather than less heat
The coke bottle humidity dome might help a great deal. Goodluck!

Hey Wax, Im taking the temp at plant level. Its good to know that odd shaped leaves might not be too bad. I really need to buy a good thermometer that I can keep in the closet all the time. At the moment Im using my phone lol (galaxy s4). It ran some tests and it seems reasonably accurate but not ideal. I am leaving my phone in there for a good hour or so to make sure it adjusts to the heat level of the room. My light probably was too low before. I had it at about 11 inches but have raised it up to 15 now. I have also increased the airflow by leaving the door open a touch during the hottest hours of the day. Think tomorrow I will get out my good camera (24megapixel BOOM!) and take some good picks so you can get a better look at the girls.
I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that they wont herm on me as the Hazes are feminized. Can't wait for you to put up your journal, I will definately sub.

What humidity levels would be optimum?

ideal rh is anywhere between 55 t0 65%rh, 70%is ok during veg, but when budding, it runs the risk of mold.
unstake your plant, or it will alway's need support, use an inside reciprocating fan to blow across your seedlings, to stiffen up the stem's, and later on the same fan will prevent mold in a high rh situation:peace:

Seedlings can take the humidity, so 70-80% isn't over the top. thecuch makes a great point with using soda bottles for humidity domes- should provide a near instant humidity bump. 55% isn't parched by any means, but I try to keep my little girls at 70-75%, at least when I can control it to that extent.

Currently its at 55%rh so its within the limits. I have an oscillating fan in there with the girls keeping them pretty cool with a decent amount of breeze going across the tops of em. I will unstake the White widow tonight when I get home from work, I didnt think about that. She has only been staked up for a couple of days and is looking much better for it. She is looking like she would be able to stand on her own now. I will also switch up the plants so that the WW is furthest from the fan for the moment to make sure she doesnt just get blown over tonight. Thanks for the advice

I will give the coke bottle trick a go see how it works out. Only thing i need to do now is buy some coke lol
