I went from 4 gal to ten gal I think there a little big lol my indoor is as big as out door lol I think 7 will work good for me pic of tens

im not sure how is an auto flower strain with a several week limited veggy growth is to root fill a 50 gal pot.

I have no doubt that some strains will happily fill a 50 gal pot with roots in 10-12 weeks. A bit impractical though..... The 6 gal smartpots I'm using at moment has roots poking out all over the bottom, but a real chore to move/lift them out and into the tent while taking care not to mechanically abuse the girls.....makes you think twice before taking them out for modelling photo sessions! I hasten to add, that any such photo's in my case is purely for the deformed and weird plant show..... Lol

I know this is a older thread but im having trouble with the 5 gallon pails the soil seems to pack more than in other 3 gallon growing pots idk why but they do and ive heard that actually smaller pots can give you more vigorous growth bc the roots search harder to find more space but who knows if thats really true 3 gallon seems to be best option for tent 5 gallons take up alot of space and height.

Well thats just silly. Whoever told you that doesnt know what they are talking about. Ideally your plants roots should never know they are in a pot at all. Bigger pot = bigger healthier root mass = bigger plant = bigger fruit.

Im pretty sure high times knows what they are talking about. in the article it said in some cases it helped to use a smaller container. It said roots when planted in ground tend to grow faster when they come across a obsticle such as a rock to find a way around it. but eventually they will just keep cicleing the pot. It said that thats one of the reasons transplanting frows faster than just putting it in a big pot off the start. Short term small pots is better.

"In some cases"? Do you have a link to this high times article? Sounds like terrible advice imo.
Ive found that in the vast majority of situations (in general) a small pot has a much higher rate of leading to stunted growth, ph issues, salt build-up (if using chem ferts)..etc etc. I can grow two identical plants with identical lighting and nutrients...one in a 3 gallon pot and one in a 5 gallon pot and the one in the larger pot will produce more and be larger 99-100 times. This works with any plant and is in no way cannabis specific..But by all means use the smallest pot you can find and post up your results.. I love learning new techniques.

This has to do with over/under watering and the issues that arise as a result. For instance if you plant a seedling into a 5 gallon pot and soak all the media, you could see some over watering / ph swing issues depending on what nutrients or soil mix you are using because a plant that small cannot uptake large amounts of water.. Beginners often make these types of mistakes..which is why its generally better to start out in a smaller container and up-pot. Even with autos, with the proper tools and technique, up-potting will be stress free for you and your plant.. You want to do it as the root system begins to reach the edge of the pot imo. So like I said, your healthiest plants will be the plants that do not know they are in a container. The larger and healthier the root system, the larger and healthier the plant. Mature plants in small pots will be stunted and produce less than those in larger pots... This may not be as obvious with autos, but even then, you will still see a decent increase in harvest with larger pots as opposed to smaller ones in regards to mature plants. Hope that helps.

Thank's I just started my first Auto's in 10 gal. smart pots my led's from ChilLed diy logic x 4 pucks I've no doubt about them. I do about myself and the 10 gal. smart pots coco coir and perlite at about 30%. PH ballanced Advanced 3 part ,three layers of worm castings and three layers of Mykos. water purified. FL. water hard to work with. They have 4 sets of leaves good color Temps are at 80 to 82 RH 55% to 68 %. I hope if I water with nutrients every 3-4 days just 1/2 gal each maybe the can grow into my 10 gal. pots. M
