It could be just the batch I got but I was not very happy with the one bag i tried out. It seemed to be at least half ground up bark. When I watered it, the top layer of "soil" would float, then it took forever for the water to soak in. After that, I would just include a handful of it when transplanting to use it up.
Make sure you check the soil ph of it before you plant, last bag of that i had was low 5's in the ph range and had to add some lime to get it up. Once it was stable it was ok.
iasked my local hydroponic garden shop he said its good for seedlings mine also doesn't look barky at all its nice and fine with lots of perlite and other goodies.how would I check ph without the meter stick bro? Ihave already put my beans in Pink Ogre, White Citrus, Magic Dragon, Purple Jems they all popped their heads out already fastest iever seen we'll see out it turns out

Every bag of soil that I have bought for growing has been in the low 5's out of the bag. Foxfarms ocean forest, light warrior, roots organics, sunshine#4.
I used to use happy frog right out of the bag unamended and I don't recommend it. Mine tended to compact and have fluctuating ph. It might be a good base for building up a super soil, but that all depends on where you live. From what I understand, fox farms contracts out to regional mixing and bagging centers. Don't quote me on that, could be complete BS.
Mr. Piggy is pretty spot on to what I have done in the past. I would use it as a base, amend it and add almost an equal part (around 40%) of perlite to it. It's a good base but without the perlite it will turn into a block a month into the grow from watering it. Even for Autos I would still add my kelp, bone and blood meal along
With my guanos and a lot of perlite. Also does have other bagging centers. The Happy Frog is still fine from what I have heard. The OF has had some problems since then. Not everyone or every bag but I do know a few people who have had problems with the OF since and a few who still use it
Problem free.
I'm currently using Happy Frog for the first time, along with some Promix. 2 parts HF and 1 part Promix. My girls love it and so do I. No bark or big chunky pieces in my bag just nice rich soil.
