Indoor Having a hard time germinating seeds this past winter

I should add that I took my instructions from Mandala seed's web site. Very detailed guide there. Although they also suggest under light, I don't remember why I put them in dark back then but, that has always worked.

The simplest, most effective thing to do is plant the seeds in Rapid Rooters, and when the sprouts are big enough, put the Rapid Rooters with sprouts into their final destination.
Works much better for me than soaking, paper towel, and rockwool.
I've had one old seed out of 15 fail using this method (Dutch Passion Auto Mazar from Just Feminized).

So you germ to get a tap root right in water? How long does that take? Couple of days? And then u use tweezers and drop it in the cup/pot and cover lightly with your medium?

I left out the important words "paper towel method" to finish. Shot glass to paper towel to pot. I put a tiny amount in shot glass, then spray with Rhiz in paper towel and continue spraying seedling with Rhiz for the first two weeks.

I use a 1/8 dispersible aspirin in my water for soaking, it has a rooting hormone in it and aids in germination rates.

I read about that. Probably a good cheap way to go. I ended up buying some Kick Start from Grotek. And I'm going to germ in rapid rooters this time.

I had to abort the germ mission and started another one. The method I used in the first try lead me to think I needed to add water when I really didn't. So they drowned. Live and Learn.

This time I'm using Rapid Rooters which I think are going to be easier to look at and feel the moisture and whether I need to add water or not. Also picked up some Grotek Kick Start and made a 1/4 solution and dunk the rapid rooters quickly. Also going to use the solution for an overnight soak before dropping them in the Rapid Rooters tomorrow.

I use a paper towel in a Ziploc container no chance of drying out.

You don't need any special tools and products.
If seed is healthy, just throw it into growing medium like nature does! Little water and that's it. It will sprout.
If seed is old and damaged (your and breeders environment) they no matter what will you do, it will not sprout.

Yeah totally man...good fresh stock from reputable breeder sprout, especially if you give them a nice warm spot to pop in. I do my sprouting in paper towel and 24-48 hours they crack their shell and are planted...out of 50+ seeds in the last year and a half, i have only had 3 not sprout....2 of them the breeder told me there has been other problems with viability, and the last seed was a tiny, tiny white seed. Every other seed sprouted fine.

You don't need anything fancy for germination. I toss mine is 2 sheets of well dampened paper towel and toss them in a sealed ziploc in the stealth cabinet. Everything that happens after they split the shell is on you! But i like to know when the seed isnt viable, and paper towel lets me know.

I live in the north country and have never noticed a difference in germination by seasons, but I have too recently been having problems with dead seeds. I have ordered my seeds from Bonza for several years and have always gotten quality live seeds. My last order, which I placed on Black Friday, seems to have problems. 3 out of 5 have been fail to fires. I had 2 THC Bomb seeds and a DP Auto Night Queen fizzle, while a DP AutoUltimate and a Genofarm Purple Haze popped within 24 hours. I have been hearing some conversation that possibly the seeds are being X-rayed in the mail and this could be causing some problems. Sounds plausible. I think it is possible that both of the THC Bomb duds were out of the same lot and possibly the whole lot was bad. Who knows how long and in what condition these resellers hold their inventory. I keep my seeds sealed inside their tubes, tubes into plastic bag, plastic bag into a jar, and the jar into the crisper of the refrigerator. I have germinated seeds over two years old that were stored this way.

Bonza seems to have on going issues at least for the last 6 months that i can tell. The other site I'm on Oz stoners members have had alot of issues. Everything that comes into Australia goes through high resolution checks and xray/scanners so I don't think that would be a problem. Seedman has close to a 100 germination rate.
Can't quiet understand why people are soaking seeds and using paper towel. Here it's put in seedraising mix first finger joint deep, cover with cling wrap and sit on the hotwater heater. In under a week they sprout.
