I haven't been growing for too long but as soon as that first photoperiod seed shot up taller than me, I was hooked, flowers and veggies, even built some raised beds this year,

Since I had no expectations, and I'm quite cheap, I wasnt going to get anything canna specific, the second set of plants were autos in a mix of 1/3 soil, castings, and perlite, and I just used an organic liquid tomato nute, it worked!:smoking:

So I have continued on reading, at first only about canna (after refusing to buy anything lol), now more general soil and growing stuff, and decided to continue down the organic route. I grew through the winter and I added to the mix above; composted sheep manure, Jobes organic dry fert and SRC mineral mix,
grew a few plants, it worked a treat! Even had a plant in the OD Comp,

More reading, some peat, composted cow manure, hen manure dry veggie fert, kelp meal, insect frass, and we have my spring mix, it was sitting a little low so I gave it some Ag lime and another month and now we have my current mix,

To be totally honest I'm not sure on any amounts , I never measured when I started, pots have been taken, used, banged back in to the tote, and when adding a new amendment I just looked at the back of the pack to see the recommended strength and sprinkled in what I thought was lighter, or maybe tossed in a handful of castings just cause I looked at the tote lol,

I've been watering in with milk and molasses, as well as a humic fulvic acid, and I'm just getting in to brewing teas, nothing fancy so far, just castings and molasses,

When I started I was thinking I wanted to make a "water-only", now I'm not so sure that's the goal haha, I just want my soil to be healthy, plus it keeps changing each time I read something lol

So I'm setting up camp here, closer to my reading material and when it all comes crashing down I can get some insite from the AFN Organic Mechanics
Just started a couple plants to end the summer, fingers crossed the new mix works, it's not the recommended 1/3 peat, aeration, castings lol

Sometimes home cookin' is the best! All the other delish' looking produce tells the tale true... .... always, the trusty A8 soil pH probe! I know it's not a cherry piece of tech', but mine has lasted years now, kept well,.... I still test it against slurry pH tests and it's within the +/-0.2 every time!
Read up at Eyes of Fire's thread, he's an excellent organic mechanic...
Me, I'm a cheatin bastard, using KIS Organics Nute pack - ... actually a great value, I used only about 30% of the bag for 60gal of supersoil, based on Empire Builder soil (very nice bag soil)... the real test is coming though!

@Waira Thank you, yep, found one on amazon for cheap, should have got two, I knew as soon as I stuck it in there it was a hell of an investment, don't see the other cheapie needles jump like that,
Was actually looking into cheese probes, can find some glass ones just like the blue labs unit,
And yes! Eof has been huge reading material through out these pages, posts exactly as he talks, should have watched one of his videos earlier lol, at first a little hard to follow, now I just hear his voice rambling along spewing knowledge... and your Kis pack ladies, I'm watching closely

:smoking: excellent! I know the A8 isn't a marvel of science, but the accuracy is close enough at +/-0.2 to tell you when things are in OK range or getting iffy... So much else can influence nutrient availability too, I think a robust diverse micro-herd, proper use of humic-fulvic and water that isn't 25% rock can make thing plenty flexible... I cite Hecno and his home made local sourced soils, for years his soils tend to run near or at 7.0, and never once a micronute lockout... others running basic synthetics and nothing else really have lockout in that pH... I've had 7's and 6's plants that seemed fine, others started getting symptoms. pH is huge, but there's some wiggle room, depending.....
The BL unit is cherry! But it's another electrode bulb type deal, just like a (liquid only) pH meter, and that's more care and products to muck with....
The KIS has been fantastic so far, and I expect that hold true to the end ... "water only" isn't Dogma, even KIS recommends that to get the very best results with it, some supp'ing is wise; maintain the soil herd, light feeds toward the end, humic-fulvic, Si, all play huge roles especially as the soil becomes depleted...
I'd say one of the hardest things to master in home growing is working your nutes! Simplicity goes a long way particularly for new growers, and the "water only" soil gig is a great way to get started IMO,... I did it to save me hassle and time, and I have to say this round's growth and health has been the best to date!

My couple ladies have popped and been transplanted into their final pots
Double Fun @HushSeeds in a 2Gal starting her second week,

Gorilla Cookies by Urban Legends @The_Skunkist , 3Gal Starting her third week, really shot up when I moved her outside

And a Duurty Magic by Dragon Meds Team, also third week however, thought this was cool, she topped herself at the very first node! Stalled out for days... I wasnt sure what was happening, then the two little nodes started so I actually tossed her in with the veggies, we'll see what happens,

DM -- Brother -- you are the same as me , I do not measure amounts of what I add to my soils , Just a understanding of what things do . As you go down this path things fall into place , when you start looking around your local environment you will be surprised what you can find to help build your soil with . Always remember -- Time -- is the key factor , let the soil age and look after it as you would the plant . I still use nutrients , but very little compared to what I used to use and mostly towards the end . The joy in this style of growing is the end product , I share my smoke with other growers - sad to say I don't like there's , tastes bad , harsh , ect . When they try mine it blows them away , full flavour and super smooth . If I can help in any way just sing out mate .
