Live Stoner Chat Hello everyone! New to the site and new to Autos.

Hey Trapper,

Nice to find a kindred spirit! It can be a little intimidating when you see everyone posting monster yield pics so it's cool knowing that one of the Pros is all about personal use quantities :smoke:Thanks for the feeding tips, especially the CalMag advice.

For my first auto I'm planning to grow a White Diesel Haze Feminized. It's apparently a very cheerful Sativa dominant hybrid (which will help me keep active and my mind off the pinched nerves and consecutive back pain I'm prone to) with a nice Indica couch lock finish (which should help when my old nemesis insomnia rears his ugly uninvited head)
:Ohmmm.......:
While I've got your attention, what are your thoughts on FIMing/ Topping Autos? I've done some research and while some agree it's worth it, others say it should be avoided as they do not react well. What's been your experience, if any? Also, since controlling final height using a change in light schedules is out, what kind of height do you think I should expect from an average sized auto in a 1 gallon pot?

Grateful for any wisdom you can offer.

Thanks and happy growing :tiphat:

I'm not really a pro...just a guy with a couple grows under his belt...but a LOT of the grow veterans here feel the same
way...quality not quantity. :) But there are also those that are about quality AND quantity and yields are steadily increasing
in the auto world. For the most part, it seems like the DWC guys are getting big numbers...and some Allstars in soil.

RE: Fimming - I personally would only attempt it as a means of arresting vertical growth due to lack of space in a tent
or closet or whatever...I did so on my first grow with a Sati-dom Sweet Seeds Dark Devil. Just couldn't move the light
up any further. I actually cut a hole in the shelf it was sitting on so I could sink the pot down below the shelf to get more
space (closet grow) before fimming. But it worked. I personally wouldn't top one. But some have to varying degrees
of success.

Autos are completely different than photos in that they have "x" amount of time on account. They WILL cease vegetative
growth at a set time and they WILL bloom/finish/mature at a particular set time. So you have x(v) and x(b) to work with...
period. And it's up to you how to spend that time on account. Time/energy expended healing is time/energy NOT being
expended growing...and the account is finite. Unlike photos, where you can veg as long as you want and correct/heal/tailor/time
your entrance into flowering stage.

RE: Finishing Height - very strain specific...some are tall and lanky (mostly sativa-dom strains) and some are short and
bushy (mostly indica-dom strains) but it really does behoove you to see where others that have grown the strain end up.
Generally speaking though, with a one-gallon pot, your plants are going to be smaller. I tried to set myself up for
52" of available "grow space" in a 5 foot high tent. That includes a suitable measure of distance between the lights and
the top of the plant and the height of the pot from the ground to the lip. so at the end, my tent can handle about
a 32"-36" plant...maxed out. But I run 2 gal and 3 gal airpots.

That's my 2 cents... :)
