i bought these things -

http://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-120mm-Silent-Value/dp/B000O8I474/

box o' 4 cooler master 120mm pc fans

having a fuck trying to get them to do anything. i'm guessing the issue here is i bought 12v fans like an idiot, so i'm going to need a 12v wall wart to power them.

right?

these things have three leads... red black yellow

i know it's a simple matter of elimination, but if someone can clear up which leads i need to use, and whether i should expect them to do anything with anything under 12v it would help.

TY

my plants are hotttttttt.

You need A 110 ac to 12 volt converter,or get some different fans that run on house current.

or nab a power supply out of an old pc

or look at the frequently bought together section lol

The yellow is useless for you, you can remove it. You will need a universal adapter/regulator to run them and adjust rpm. Run more than two fans on a single adapter and you'll need to buy a new one very soon :P

This should work better for you:

!#()*%^ :D

cheers all, i did notice that the polarity is listed in tiny print on the fan sticker.. not that the ID should have been a surprise, i get frustrated when application of current to load does fuck all.

dug around in the shed and found a psu that turns it... fans are 12v 0.16a and the psu is 12v 1a. i'm one of these guys who has ~$1500 worth of audio cables et c. in a box.. people kept ripping off my gear (until i stopped buying it) but leave me the cables.

"great, now you own a sequential circuits pro-one, but you forgot the kenton midi>cv. good luck using the bastard."

ftr as such (i don't know about adjusting via the yellow lead) this product is sufficiently quiet (won't be heard outside of cab) and moves enough air for a micro.. i can feel it on my face until about two feet, i'm going to mess with the yellow lead and see if i can get the high performance mode out of it.

*edit* as predictable, yellow makes no difference wired directly, didn't kill the fan either :)

btw, any of you leccy buffs...

i scored a fluke 27/FM off ebay for $20 and after a few months the battery's out.

recommendations on using a regular 9v versus shelling out for the official?

yellow on three lead fans is "RPM Sense" for computers / servers... etc. so the fan's voltage can be scaled and RPM fed back accordingly for CFM clacs...

old computer power supplies are ideal power sources for both 12v and 5 v fans....

Yeah theres a couple diagrams on the net that will show you how to wire it up for this.

Basically its just bridging 2 wires (green and black) on the supply so its constantly running
