New Grower Help with Hempy bucket

can you help with post # 5

i dont have any experience with hempys Cantgetrite. Did you water when you put the rockwell cubes in?

pher2 thanks man, did some digging and found it, will definitely be checking out all the forums...a lot going on around here...:D

cantgetrite I responded to your pm...4x4 should be good for everything you're doing...any height restrictions? Never run "Think Different" but have experience with AK47 and she can stretch some, depending on pheno. When I ran hempys in 5 gal buckets, I drilled a few holes around the rim of the bucket...can be used to tie down branches, attach a bootleg screen for a SCROG...food for thought.

As far as your watering question, the vermiculite retains water very well, so shouldn't be an issue. I do understand your concern, though. What you could do is more frequent waterings WITH LESS WATER for the first few days until the root system is more established. Be careful if you go that route, though. I'd just water normally and go from there. It can actually be beneficial to have things a little on the dry side early on...makes roots grow a little faster on the hunt for water. ;)

Sounds great man! Like you've got a wide open track for success in front of ya...

Glad I could be of some help! :D

Just to offer some advice,

How was the root system of the plant in the rockwool cube before transplanting it? I'm thinking HP believes it was a full root system / young plant. Where I'm thinking you mean a seedling that you germinated and placed into the rockwool and then right into the hempy bucket, correct? If so you want to keep the cube semi moist until the plant builds itself up some. Usually by the 3rd to 4th set of leaves. Not a consistent level of moisture but it can't be bone dry. Spritz the cube with water every 6-8 hours, nute free until the first true leaves appear (not cotyledons) then light nutes. (Usually 1/8 to 1/4 strength, usually with hempy 1/4 starting works fine with autos)

He actually has a good point here...I figured you meant an established seedling. whatsgoodie2 is right on if not.

Whatsgoodie2 Headpiece...my bros .....thank you ..and yes i meant seedling the tap root was just coming thru the rockwool when i planted it in the bucket....let me tell you what ive learned in the last 36 hrs.......the first thing is to prime my perlite with ph ro water and then plant my seedling but only when i can see the tap root....#2 not to fill the bucket to the top with per-lite/vermiculite mix.....there's some displacement going on that iam to high to wrap my mind around it right now so my new rule is two inches below the top of the bucket should cure that displacement problem.......

In that case, I'm really glad wg2 said what he did!!!

And I also apologize for not asking more questions and assuming...:o

Here's another tip...if you plan on staying with rockwool etc in the future...I'd let the seedling root in a 16 oz cup "hempy" or something similar...a lot less guesswork in early watering IMO. After 2 weeks, transplant to the 5 gal and watch them EXPLODE!!! :2cents:

More tips while I'm thinking of it...rinse your perlite first before use in a strainer...all that perlite dust can clump up on the bottom of your bucket making your "reservoir" less functional. If you didn't do that this time, don't worry, just remember next time. When you are making your hempys, pre-moisten the perlite/vermiculite and mix them before you place the mix in the bucket. Make the mix as uniform as possible, no big pockets/clumps of vermiculite...although your mix is light enough on the vermiculite, shouldn't be much of a problem.
