Lighting Help with Light size

Hello my fellow growers I was needing a little help with my new grow room light size.
I have a 4'x3' grow area and was wondering what size light I need I will probably be getting a light that I can run either MH or HPS light and was thinking that a 600 watt light would do the job but not sure so that's were you guys come in. So help me please.

I do have a 250 watt HPS I could run with the 600 but was just wanting to use one light to help cut down on heat.

Well I mean.. to be honest after seeing megatrons 50 w led grows I firmly believe less can be more, id go for it with the single 6 in a cool tube and if you need the extra 250 add when needed... or maybe run it for weeks of stretch to simulate a heat wave perhaps? Not to sure what I would do but id more than likely have sime fun toying with it for sure

I've done 4x4 with 600 silvania grolux bulb and it was fine! Gravita Pro HPS 600w/400v seem to be the mutts nuts.

I would use a 600w Sun master MH bulb during growing phase and then switch it to Grolux HPS when stretch is over.

a 600 watt MH is plenty for the size area! you add any more and you'll have heat problems in a area that small.

4 foot by 3 foot is 12 square feet. If you're going by watts per square foot, most recommendations for HPS/MH I've seen are for at least 50W per square foot minimum. 600W divided by 12 (your square foot total) gives you 50 watts per square foot. Bingo.

Is it going to be enough? In my opinion, you bet! As far as light coverage goes; there are all SORTS of reflectors and vented hoods and cool tubes and what not out there that all disperse and spread light differently; I just did a google image search for "light coverage from reflector hps" and it brings back a TON of images showing different styles of reflectors and recommended areas and projected light spreads; this might help give you an idea when you're looking at the different types of hoods/vents/reflectors out there while shopping.

I've run a 1000W HPS in a 4 foot by 4 foot tent and it's more than enough for that square footage. I've run a 400W HPS (cool tube) in a 3 foot by 2 foot square foot space with no problems. Just giving you some ideas based on my personal experiences :Sharing One:
