Hi all,

Mea Culpa: my regular forum haunts are elsewhere and photoperiod, though I have nothing against automatics (or this place!) and have enjoyed growing an automatic in the past. I read through several of the FAQs and stickies before doing my auto grow so I have fond memories of this place and would like to give something back.

Anyway, in the middle of June I'm entering a competition, an automatic grown in a King Size Pot Noodle container (exactly half a litre!). I'll be trying to germinate two seeds to make sure I have at least one for the competition.

That'll (probably) leave me with one cracked seed, so I thought I'd drop in here and document a self-imposed challenge. If people are cool with that.

It'll be a Grand Heft Auto by Dr Krippling Seeds, it'll be grown in a 1-litre airpot in soil using Plant Magic organic nutrients and supplements/beneficials, it'll be in a veg tent probably on an 20/4 light cycle. The light will be a PlantPhotonics DS-90 LED panel which uses Osram Oslon SSL-80 horticultural diodes.

If I had a bigger veg tent I'd grow the plant out in a bigger pot, but I don't. The tent is 60cm square, plus it'll have the Pot Noodle grow PLUS all my photoperiod veg. So limiting the plant to a 1-litre pot will keep it small, but it'll also be interesting to compare final yield with the grow done in a smaller tub.

If people are up for me keeping a grow diary on it, I'll be happy to do it.

Based on my professional experience, as well as my first experieces as a clandestine gardener, I have started to give thr following advice to new growers.

Be systematic and scientific in your approach.
The online journal is very good, but nothing beats your private notes. What I have experienced, is that every plant is an individual. Even two plants of the same strain may need individual care and watering. I strongly recommend having a notebook and to write downever drop of chemicals and water that you feed them. After 3 months, you will see the value of keeping your personal diary up to date.

Her is two radom pages from my lab. journal. Note that I use a pencil, not ink. Why? Water ruins ink, but not grafit from a pencil. The first instruction I received from my professor, when packaging scientific samples from our first trip to work as guest scientists at a canadian unibersity, was to use pencil for labelling. When labelling important samples, pencil is used in case of any leaks that could render the label un-readable.

LOL, that diary's great. You can of course get permanent pens of course! But pencils are great, and basic and cheap.

I just follow the Plant Magic nutrient schedule, dialling it up or down if I see deficiency or abundance. If I was using mixed nutes or my own I'd be more scientific about it.
