Basically I'm asking how many autos under 400 watt hps at 55,000 lumens, and be able to expect a decent yield?

Too broad of a question to answer. tent/cab/grow room? What's the grow area dimensions? What ventilation? Soil/coco/hydro? Which autos? What's your experience with growing autos? What size pots?

When it comes to growing any cannabis, let alone something with different needs like autos, generalized questions are hard to answer with any degree of accuracy. Filling in the blanks helps make it easier to answer.

I think it's probably enough to work most 3x2' spaces somewhat comfortably. Traditionally, people used to say 100W per plant is a good/average number, but this can be far from accurate. Even lumens don't paint an accurate picture. For example, certain plants respond better to specific wavelengths which is dependent on the type of light. Assuming you do everything right in that amount of space, I would think four would be a good number. But as most experienced people would tell you, doing everything right the first time is a crapshoot.

Some people are able to pull ounces off of single gallon containers whereas other end up with less off of five gallon ones. Sometimes they pull way more. So depending on your setup and experience, the total number can fluctuate.

Last but not least, do consider your laws. In certain states, under a certain quantity (separate from yield) might actually be more forgiving.

400w hid usually covers a 3x3' area. Depending on the strain you're growing you could go anywhere from one giant one like a TD, I could cram 4 big MI5s under that in five gallon nursery pots, or nine little ones in two gallon pots.

It really varies.

Ok, 3.7 gallon pots, organic choice soil, currently have 1 critical jack,1 la diva,1 sweet tooth. The room is 6 by 8, but rather empty with only 3 plants. They are 6 days from sprout with 160 (actual) watts florescent. I was going to get more floros, but it's actually cheaper for a 400 hps from htg. I plan on ordering it in a few days. Mylar on walls, diy co2 which I know won't help much with my square footage. I just open the door to the room for once in a while for air exchange, I'm moving in a few months and don't want to cut a hole in the wall, it's a rental. And this is my first grow, so any suggestions are welcome.

Don't skimp out on a high intensity discharge light. That HTG brand light will end up giving you problems. Opening the door once and a while isn't going to work, you really need to get an extraction fan for fresh air exchange, and so you can hook up a carbon filter to help eliminate smell. Word of mouth and smelly plants get people busted quicker than anything else. The mylar on the walls won't do much as it's beyond the light casting range of a light that small. The co2 isn't doing anything in an area that big without a proper set up.

If the soil you have is MG organic choice it might work, but it's a really bad soil. Do you have grow shops available to you in your area? If so something like Roots organics potting soil or fox farms ocean forest is a thousand times better.

I honestly wouldn't be doing a grow in a rental without a filter this close to the move. Those plants will get stinky as they mature and you will be smelling it in the rest of the house.

I'm not trying to get you down or scare you off from growing, but it sounds like you're setting yourself up for trouble. When it comes to growing cannabis you should have everything in order before you sprout the seeds. All your equip should already be set up so there's nothing left to chance or worry. I'd also suggest you do some reading up on growing autos.

Here's a link to our new growers section, they will be able to help you out a whole lot more in there than pig can. I wish you safety and a harvest!

Yeah I understand what your saying. I live in Colorado so in 4 days my plants are legal. Not too worried about that. My original plan involved doing this with everything set up right, with 12 plants perpetual harvest style. But with recent news of the move I've decided to wait until I get in the new house.

Yeah, it may be legal but the landlords or neighboring tenants might not care for it. Just saying. I have one buddy out in Cali that has his license but rents. In his last place he was fine. He won't grow currently because his landlord wouldn't approve. He values where he lives more than a few plants. Besides, he can just hop down to the local dispensary and choose from dozens of well-grown varieties. Always something to consider. If heat is really a consideration, a good LED could replace it but a similar equivalent will run 300 beans easy.

The law isn't your only worry, you could also get robbed. Safety first.
