I know the process for applying colloidal silver to female plants at the beginning of flower to produce fem-only pollen. What I’m asking is more a genetics question - a topic that makes my dyslexic brain hurt! Lol. Specifically, I’m wondering if I can make my own stock of a particular renowned strain so that I don’t have to buy a whole bunch of those expensive seeds? For example, let’s say I love DP’s AutoUltimate and I have a few of their feminized seeds. Can I use CS on one plant to make the pollen and, then, pollinate a 2nd plant to get a bunch of seeds identical to what I’d get if I spent a bunch of money ordering the authentic seeds from a bank?

I’ve read some threads where folks recommend using a mother or a mother/father that comes from regular seed. Problem is, I don’t think it’s possible to get a regular seed of Auto Ultimate, or many of the best autoflowering strains. I watched an interview with Mr Nice from Grimm Bros seeds and he touched on the subject saying that as long as the strains used were well bred and stable (as I’m confident DP’s are) the likelihood of hermits is VERY low. However, I can’t wrap my head around genetics theory; so I figured I’d post the question here and see what the braintrust has to say about it.

They wouldnt necessarily be identical. But yes. You are otherwise right according ro all the research ive done. I plan to do the same thing after i run a couple tests.

Other research suggests only spraying 1 branch so you can still have pollen but nit have to do a whole plant. Same with pollenating... You can paint it on a single branch and just have 1 seeded branch. You essencially only lose 1 branch from 2 plants. And 1 pollenated branch will give plenty of seeds for a while.

Think on it:
Does knowledge have intrinsic value or does it need to have a practical use to have value?

Gotcha. That’s what used to do - collect pollen in ziplocks. Then I’d slip the baggie over a bud, close up the bag to the stem and give it a gentle shake. I’d do that to several branches per bag and I’d still get SOME seeds on a few neighboring buds but mostly seeds in those selected buds and the bulk of the plant was sensi.

No non femmed seeds are available from most of the biggest most popular breeders, but there is some amazing auto strains available in non fem, that you could make your own crosses. Check out the autoflower portal and see what non fems they have available.

Skell-

Please excuse my internet ignorance but what/where is the “autoflower portal?” Maybe it’s because I’m on a phone but I can’t find anything labeled “portal.” I know...I’m an idiot. Lol!

One day im gunna run their stone dragon. Oh its so pretty.

I run the stone dragon or blackstone every time i fire up a new grow indoors....absolutely fantastic for indoor in cramped spaces!! Really great medical effect as well!

I did some CS breeding with my first grow(current), it seems to have worked pretty good, I have already harvested about 30+ mature seeds, one of witch I germinated and It's just barely poking out of the ground. I originally planned to just pollenate one of my Afghans, but I ended up with seeds in all plants, so I have some Purple Widow x Afghani Kush seeds too. I'm planning on taking them all to 2nd or 3rd generation in 4-6" pots to stabilize the strain a little bit, and select the best looking ones to use as parent plants. I am going to do this with any strains that I like or want to keep for future use/breeding as well. I just treated one branch with the Colloidal Silver, but I think the next time, ill grow the fem I'm reversing is a solo cup or small pot, do a full reversal and just keep it in a separate area. Its a bit of a hassle cause that plant will have to be kept separate from the others if you don't want all plants in that area to get pollenated like mine did.

@Natsu

Thanks for the reply! That’s great info and gives me something to think about. When I grew a lifetime ago, we kept a male in a hall closet to produce pollen. I think separating is good idea. I’m wondering about cloning the mother and raising that clone just for the purpose of producing seeds.
