I'd like to focus some time and energy on CBN's. Looking for a plan to do this. Starting with what genetics maybe. Or I can just pick a good indica. Then I assume the grow would be the same but I did ready that UVB helps increase CBN and I do have a good UVB bulb I can use. After that is it really just a matter of growing to mostly amber and then dry it and oxidize it for a couple of months?

Why grow for high CBN? Isn't CBN what THC-A (the good stuff) degrades to with age, oxidation? It's not psychoactive, other than being the active agent in stale cannabis that makes you tired.

Why not just do all you can to oxidize THC, make some cannabis stale (unsealed exposure to heat, light, moisture, etc.)? Won't oxidation get you much higher concentrations vs. the lower levels naturally in the plant and fresh cannabis? If you want high concentration CBN, maybe start by oxidizing/degrading extracted oil or rosin.

I don't think you can grow high CBN and that's not what I meant. I read that indica prob has the most CBN in it compared to hybrids or sativa but even so indica is probably less than 1% CBN when grown. But starting with that in the plant is probably the foundation one would want to start with when the goal is to get CBN. And from there its basically like you said. Let it age and oxidize.

The reason I want to find a good way to produce high amounts of CBN is for insomnia meds.

I just pulled a couple of jars I was curing and popped the lids off them and pulled the Bovida packs out and I'm letting the flowers age and oxidize. I just don't know how long I need to do this. It could be great if there was a way to speed up the process.

I'm also going to age and oxidize some rosin I have been using for sleeping.

I've seen concentrate (distillate) for sale that actually had a pretty high percent of CBN (like 5%!) lab tested, which half the time isn't even tested for or printed on the label with many companies. I'm 100% with you man, CBN is the shiznit when it comes to sleeping meds. Certain strains test out higher percentages of cannabinoids than others, ask @FullDuplex about a recent discovery with one of his autoflowers!

Thanks man. I found some stuff in canada that is supposed to be 10% CBN. I might buy some to try out for sleeping and if its good I'll really go nuts on making my own CBN meds. Since it looks like it could take months of oxidization to get high amounts of CBN out of THC material I'd like to know if the process really works or not and how strong CBN can be when it comes to sedation for sleeping.

Found these tidbits - it would seem if you wait till the trich's go 100% amber then you're there to a certain degree... Let it dry in the hot sun for days... torch it good when you smoke it.. lol

Leave your bud in an airtight container away from excessive heat, light, or air to avoid CBN production.

If the cannabis is not cured properly, more THC will be degraded into CBN. As such, recently cured bud that is high in CBN is often considered to be of lesser quality.

Simply put, a grower who lets their bud harvest for longer will have more cannabinol. If a grower is looking for bud with high CBN content, they should wait until the trichomes start to turn a yellow/amber color. Most growers, however, look to maximize THC and would not want to wait this long.

The boiling point of CBN is 365 °F (185 °C), which is a bit higher than THC. Users vaporizing above this temperature can expect to notice the effects of CBN, if enough is present.

Technically, CBN might not be a controlled substance in the U.S. I recall it is not listed in Schedules, but all the broad things they now consider precursors illegal (federally). But those in legalized U.S. states might be able to buy purified CBN.

To accelerate oxidation, I would think more air exposure (dry it up, then grind); heat for long periods; and moisture will help. If something is bad for storing cannabis, it's probably good for degrading it.

Yes I'm getting similar info online too after more google searches.

I did speak to a guy at a dispensary that has CBN capsules and he has lots of personal CBN stash and after talking a bit he told me of a couple of ways to produce CBN.

One is from rosin and an oil rig. You can get what is called an oil catcher and it collects the leftover black rosin oil after dabbing. He said that stuff is basically pure CBN. So that is 1 thing I'll be looking in to. I only have a wax pen, no rig yet. He also said a rig is way more effect than a pen in general for rosin meds so I think I now have a couple of good reasons to get myself an oil rig.

The other method he suggested is a long low temp decarb. Heat. So decarb rosin or flower at like 170F for 5 hours.

UVB lighting is supposed to degrade THC too. So I'm going to look at a long decarb of some indica rosin and then put it under a UVB bulb for a day. I hope to do this in the next day and will post results back here.

This is something I am interested in too, considering its benefits to anxiety and insomnia.

CBN is probably one of the reasons I like l o n g cures.

I'd like to know more about UVB's role. Is it the same spectrum that can sterilize air and surfaces?

No science here, I can say for sure that long cures make bud more tranquil for me. And that's one of the things I am after!

10%! and in Canada you say? Please please tell me the strain!
