Grow Mediums I want to try hydro, you want to do hydro with me?

Ahh, i had a read about now. The reason i (no one) should top up with 100% nutes is because you dont know what nutrients the plant have used. If top up with full nutes it could lead to an lock-out. Now the coin fell down in the machinery
And is always better to slightly underfed, then overfed
Thank you. :thanks:

Hi Rambo.:smoking:
Some great advice here.
I found flood and drain tables and the eb n flow bucket system really easy to use. Easy access to the res, lots of water for a better cushion against ph and tds swings between refills and easy access for a continuous read meter for ph and tds. I just used a separate pump with enough hose to drain to the shower when I needed to drain or change the res out. A controller bucket in a recirculating dwc would make things like that a breeze too.For a chiller you might look into peltier coolers - refrigeration units. Combing one with a power supply, pump and temp controller you could have a pretty cheap chiller.

Did you decide what you are going with yet? :growing:

Hey penrey. Yepp, awesome folks here. Thanks for dropping in, it looks like i will have help from multible directions. My chances to success went up another notch. I think you are correct with having a recirculating system. But i think i will go with 2 separate buckets, then i can have them slightly different and see what works best, so i dont put all the eggs in one basket. If it works i could just buy the whole kit and im good to go.
I think i wont need the chiller, its acsually summer now, and it has been the coolest summer i can remember. 5 days of beach-weather in 2 months. Its been perfect. Now autumn is close.. and then there is winter until mars-april. I have acsually move 500km to avoid the warmer weather in south. Did a check and my water-temps was 22-23°c at max on the hottest place in the room. With products like hydroguard or the sm-90 i feel secure.

If you mean by system i will go with alien bubbler 55 liter. Alot of water in the buckets wich will help with ph and ec. Thanks @Mañ'O'Green.

The seeds will be from Seedstockers, not sure of the strain, ill take 2 of the most healthy ones for a good start.
Im gonna do the rest in Coco, 15L autopots with airdomes in the bottom.
Strains that will be soaked are: Northern Lights, white widow, power plant, big bud, blackberry gum and amnesia. All are autos.
Its a sister-company to Dutch passion and so far the girls handing it well in soil.
I bought new reflectors that was way brighter then the standard ones i had before so i light-stressed the girls from start. Didnt believe they was so effective, but now 4x600w hps covers the same area i had 6 lights before, and i stil wish i could raise the lights a bit.
Im going for at least 2 gpw at my next try if just calculate size of bulbs, not measuring total w used from wall under the grow.

Gonna LST or supercrop to keep the canopy low to avoid getting them have to much light. You are welcome to tag along when the adventure begins.

Unless you can connect recirculating tanks with 2 1/2" inch piping just forget about it. I tried all manner of connections with 1" and just ended up always clogged by roots. Water in at the bottom and out at the top worked best but was eventually clogged when I forgot to clear it it a couple of days. Then I had a minor flood.

I don't know how starting seeds in glasses of water and paper towels ever got started or why but it is not needed and can be harmful to the germination and the all important tap root. I know thousands of guys will claim success because their plant grows but is it all it could have been? 1. Look at an emerging tap root under a microscope; you will see thousands of tiny lateral root hairs. These root hairs grow into the fibers of the paper towels and are stripped off when removed from the towel. 2. You bump and damage the delicate root tip trying to plant it. These actions will slow and/or stunt the plant. Soaking seeds prevents oxygen from getting to the root as it cracks the shell again slow and/or stunt the plant. Use Rapid Rooters for soil and rockwool for starting your hydro seeds. Put the seed point up into the medium ~ 1/2" deep, control the temperature ~ 78°F they will germinate just fine without damage to the little tap root and its laterals.

Allright. I'm about to order the goodies now so now I'm really trying to not forget anything important.
Number 2 in the list is hydroguard or sm-90 but the shop didn't know what sm-90 was. Let's hope they have hydroguard or I'll get the rot-control in another place.

Clogging pipes doesn't sound so funny, that smells like problem. I'll start with the 2 bubbler and take it from there. I could buy the same system with a rez if it works, that's what I ment. The piping in the rdwc set looks more then 3-4 inch : 26145096-origpic-3bc0f7.jpg_0_0_100_100_300_212_75.jpg.
I'll get it if I succeed.

I have used the glass-method for long time, but for last times I have soaked them for 12 hours and then put them in jiffys.
I'll skip the glass next time and trying to put them directly in the jiffys. Or are these ones better?

How about those ones called "Grodan", are they good for germination for hydro.

I have killed a couple of seeds during the time I've been growing. I've seen they get white, muschy inside - probably from getting to little oxygen.
I've seen some just poke out their taproot then just stopped and died.
I hate when it's happening.

I'll get a new magnifier, my son has played with it and now it's gone. I told him and his mom that it's something I need, but what can you do, kids are kids and he wants to be like me and do what I do.

I will go with Gold Labels nutrients as I have sucess in both soil and possible sucess in coco with them. But the PK they say I should use won't touch the rez. I'm pretty sure it will work with AN big bud instead. Works in coco, or have worked so far. I used their PK like they said for 4 days but my girl did not like it, yellow and crispy leafs, stopped with it and used big bud instead, and she's happy with new green sugarleafs. I used only 50% of recommendation.
In the same time I gave it to my soil girls, same thing there, burned leafs at 25%. But with big bud they are happy.
Their base A and B is awesome but the PK is not a fav.
I think it's worth a shot. I'll pm u some previous grows i made :cools:

The list - buckets, hydroguard, nutrients, I'll get qualite PH and EC meter in another shop as this one only has ADWA for 35-40€. Rock wool.
What more should I put in the basket that can be handy? Claypebbles i have of good quality.

A bottom feed pump.

If you can get them the Grodan A-ok 1.5" starter cubes are good for both soil and hydro. I don't mean to nag but good nutrient lines spend tens maybe hundreds of thousands of dollars developing a line of nutrients designed to work together. You should leverage that scientific work in your garden. The lines I recommend are Advanced Nutrients, House & Garden, Canna and for a low budget Dyna-Gro. I would not even consider DWC without Botanicare HydroGuard - period. I also have been adding Mammoth P to my last 3 grows - I like it.

I hear you. Hydroguard I will get. Will put that as number one on the list. I found this one, called superthrive: 15947241-origpic-b9f28c.jpg_0_0_100_100_300_300_75.jpgis that something simular to mammoth P? I did a googlesearch little quick. This one I can get my hands on. I'm not sure they have all the things you write, I'll try the best I can.
I'm more then pleased with small extra-things that will help me get where I want.
These Grodan is 4x4 cm, equal to 1,5" I guess. 7366108-origpic-fd3d84.jpg 0.18$ a peice.

This is the nutrients companies i can pick from when it comes to extra goldcorns like mammoth p.
