I just cut down a 78 day old joint dr diesel Ryder that I stunted by over watering and was only 9" tall. After cutting down and looking through roots there were only roots in the top half of the pot. I read muddys thread on "when to harvest, your leaves will tell you" so I waited and after 78 days the leaves were still mostly green.

The plant had regrown pistol hairs for the third time and I thought sense it was stunted maybe it wasn't maturing correctly so I chopped her down and hung to dry. That was yesterday.

Then today I saw nanners sticking out of the buds. None were open yet (that I could find). I had read about plants left long enough past maturity that they will herme, so I assume that's what happened. Whoopee.

I just happen to have a six week old JD diesel Ryder growing so it got three branches pollinated. That means ill have fem seed right?

This 9" plant was my 14 plant in the 7 mo. Of growing and was going to leave it till the leaves turned like muddy said and wound up with fem pollen (this is where I thank muddy for my accidental fem pollen). I had made seed before but they were reg seeds.

So here are my assumptions (some of witch may be wrong)

1 When the plant was small and I over watered, the roots stopped growing in the soggy soil on the bottom and stunted the plant..
2 the stunted plant did not yellow at maturity because it never ran short of nutes( me not flushing and lots of unused soil in bottom of pot) and being dissatisfied with not reproducing. It still had all fan leaves nice and green.
3 maybe this is a ok use of stunted plants. Being small and not taking up much space and able to live longer to give fem pollen. I will sure try with the next runt.
4 I assume the plant thought it would live at least another four weeks for the seeds to mature. Be for when I read about mature plants hermeing I wondered how yellow dying plants would live long enough to make viable seeds. The little diesel Ryder looked like it would be able to make it four more weeks.

Any one else leave mature plants to herme for pollen?
What are your thoughts or experiences?

Thanks

Another question to raise here. Will the pollen of a stunted plant pass on poorer genetics or the stunted plant will not affect pollen genetics.? I have a few stunted males that I kept pollen from, wondering if worthwhile to keep?

I could be wrong but i don't think a stunted plant would have changed genetics to pass on. But I am unclear if a herme tendency would be passed on. Can anyone comment?

Check with an experienced breeder, but I feel sure they will say not to use hermie pollen, I sure would not. Like I said I am not a breeder, just giving it some thought. I would get some regular beans and harvest some pollen from a great looking male. Just my 2 cents.

Your plant didnt yellow because you cut it too early. When you stunted it you put her back a week or two so it needed longer. You should go by your tryks. :peace:
