I've tried several different ways of vaping with my preference being something portable. I recently assembled a " mod" style vape pen and have been experimenting with making my own ejuice for it. And vit works ok. Its fun to vape with, and it will give you a nice buzz. But I find it works better to keep you buz going than it is to achieving the level of medication you want. I also have an Atmos Raw clone and a Cloupour M4 dry herb pen. They work nicely BUT.... they combust the cannabis, not vape it.
So being an ebay junkie...lol, I went searching for a good portable I could afford. I set myself a $60 bid limit, so obviously, it would have to be a good, but used unit. I really wanted a DaVinci Ascent but even used was way out of my price range. I read many reviews and my second choice was the Iolite Original. Here is some Manufacturer's information:
The iolite Vaporizer weighs in at 81 grams / 2.8 oz, which is less then a regular cell phone and is about the same size. This vaporizer will fit easily in anyone's hand.
The iolite Vaporizer is powered by a nominal amount of butane gas, which holds a charge for continuous vaporization for about 2 hours.
Inside the isolated chamber in the iolite Vaporizer, there is a catalytic conversion process which uses the butane to create heat while it expels the butane as harmless water vapor through the escape ports located on the port of the unit. The catalytic heater heats a ceramic chamber that then heats the plant matter.
There is absolutely no risks to your health since the catalytic conversion on the iolite Vaporizer renders the butane completely inert.
Optimum operating temperature is 190°C / 375°F, which the IOLITE reaches in 30 seconds.
10 seconds to charge and lasts 2 hours on one full tank.
I found one used on ebay that looked decent and according to the seller, it had very little use and worked fine. The pics made it look beat up, but I recognised the speckling created by a crappy cellphone camera ( Just like mine...lol ).
Well I won the auction and got it for $20 plus $15 shipping! Along with all the original accessories and packaging, was the original receipt showing the buyer had paid $220!!!
I went out and bought a can of butane and hurried home to test my new vaporizer. It doesn't take very much butane to fill it. A can should keep me vaping for a long time.
I inspected the unit carefully and cleaned it thoroughly, although it really didn't need it. The condition was really almost as new!
You remove the mouth piece, as that is also the herb chamber. I filled the chamber with some of the last of my White Widow ( I LOVE the taste ). It holds maybe .3 grams.
One reason I liked the idea of the original Iolite is it is dead simple to use. There is no temp control to fiddle with. There is an on/off switch, and an igniter button, that’s it! Just the way I like it!
You switch it on, click the igniter ( just like the one on a gas grill ) and within seconds, its heating up. its ready to vape in about 60 seconds.
I like the butane powered concept. All battery powered units have a continually dropping voltage in the battery during use, resulting in a slowly decreasing vape efficiency. With the Iolite, the vape temp remain the same right up untll the last of the butane is used.
I packed the chamber, then filled the unit with butane. I switched it on and clicked the igniter a couple times. it makes a wooshing sounds as it begins consuming the butane. thru the vent, you can see the heater glow.
Once up to temp, I took a hit. Mmmmmm what a great taste! Then another hit. good taste but didn't feel like much of a hit. So I took another, and another and...about 6 hit later...I realized ... OMG! I'm SO stoned!
The vapor was so mild I could barely tell at times that I WAS getting a hit, so another vaporizer fooled me....lol!
The vapor does taste great and I found that its best not to pack the weed in the chamber more than just a little. You will get much more vapor with just a light packing. like any vaporizer, it take a little testing to get just right, but the second fill was perfect.
The size is almost perfect. its very light and fits nicely in your hand. The side with the ribbed vents gets hot, but that’s to be expected, as that's where it vents the water vapor created by the catalytic process. It is very easy to grasp it by the edge which houses the on/off switch and the igniter.
Yes, nothing is perfect. Its a little noisy for it to be completely stealthy. The vapor is just as bit hot. Not burn your throat hot, just noticeably hot. I have the extended mouth piece with this and I highly recommend it. The unit get hot at the front where the vent it. You need to let it cool before storing it. Also, a bit disconcerting is, it makes that wooshing sound, once or twice after you turn it off. I found that that is part of the cooling process to make it cool faster, so its not a defect.
The draw takes a bit to get use to. It does not draw big gulps of air like a desktop vape. You take long, gentle pulls to get the best vapor. Not really a complaint, just takes a bit to adjust to.
Over all, I give this unit an 8 out of 10. I am quite satisfied with the Iolite, its exactly what I've been looking for, a small discrete unit that will fit in your pocket. It has a chamber big enough to give 10-15 good hits. Its easy to handle and to vape with, my lady loves it! Her MS has stolen some of her small motor skills, yet she finds the Iolite easy to use! Wonderful! When my lady is happy, then so am I!
