These buds/flowers are both on the same plant (this is the first plant I’ve gotten this far). The “thicker” looking bud - is this normal? Fox tailing? Is the appearance difference between the buds just maturity or does it indicate something?

That plant does not look right. Leaves are funky and miss formed. Might be a genetic issue.

It had a really rough start and was quite stunted early on. Was in bad soil (highly alkaline) and under watered til about 21 days. I transplanted into FFHF and got my watering on target and she managed to grow! But yeah, while I salvaged the plants in this tent, they’re all small and a bit funky. So when I noticed the different bud structures, I figured it was stress-related. I read about fox tailing, but this looked different to me. Kinda oddly plump but small bits? Figured everyone here had more experience than I, so put it out there for input.

Ya, good luck. Just let it grow if its green and flowering. It might just be the way she ways to grow.

This is the foxtailing that I'm familiar with. Odd nodes popping off the buds. Oh and bleaching too.

That does look more like the pics I’ve seen online. She seems to be progressing, so I’m running with it! All the seeds are 69 days and ILGM (I’ve since graduated to Mephisto genetics for next grows). I went through all the stunted plants and I do see more strains with the little plump parts as well, so I’m figuring just stress. I am checking regularly for signs of herming given the stress. So far so good...

Those buds aren't big enough to foxtail... The buds forming on the left look like they are seeded. I'd check the plant for male sacs forming.. The single fingered leaves are also a red flag. It's probably all stress related.

Damn, that’s my biggest fear, @Proph ! Here is a photo of a second plant with the center bud looking similar. I cut off one of the “thick” bits. I don’t feel/see anything that looks like a seed. I’m going though even more-closely now checking all the plants but I haven’t found any pollen sacs yet. If they are seeds, do I just cut off the affected buds (assuming I can find where the pollen came from, and cut that off, too)?

In this pic, the circled part looks like seed pods.. The pistils are all dead (amber) and there is no bud.. That tells me that something pollinated that branch or section. If a plant has truly hermed, cutting off the sacs can buy time, but more will grow back.

So in this 4x8 tent and dozen plants, I’ve found several with similar looking buds, but not every plant, nor every bud on an affected plant. All are 69 days old. I still haven’t found any seed pods (closed or ‘exploded’), nor any nanners. I have two other 4x4 tents that are a month behind these, all in the same lung room.

I will continue going through looking for the source of pollen. Is the seeded bud worth keeping? Make bubble hash/tincture? Do I chop all seeded bud and trash it? What is my best course of action? (Besides finding the damn pollen source)

The trichome-laden seed covers (sepals) should be as good as seed-free buds. You get a lot less yield with seeded buds, and there's more work in cleaning before consuming it. The plant puts out THC to protect its seeds, so seeded pot can be high quality and potent.

But I haven't seen any seeded pot in decades, so maybe others can better answer "Is the seeded bud worth keeping?"
