Hey everybody! This is my first autflower grow in hydro. It's a GH waterfarm that I've added a air stone to. I pulled it put today to change the solution and this is what I found. Some discoloured roots. Is this root rot?

Need a better pic. If it is a brown slime on roots then yes.

Doesn't look like root rot to me. If you suspect it is, then take a good smell. If it smells very bad then this may indicate it is root rot, if it looks nasty but it doesn't smell anything worse than what a slight earthy smell may be, then it most likely just tanning from nutrients. Keep in mind that using kelp based products will seriously tan your roots, I sometimes even have little black areas with kelp. Remember to add enzyme products to your feed to guard against these kind of things. It has always protected my reservoir. Hope this helps and good luck!

What enzymes you use, hygrozyme or sensizyme?

I use Cannazym but I've also used Sensizyme too.
Do you always use this in your res as a preventive for root rot or only if root rot is present? I heard zymes are good and so was kelp and silica in hydro. Do you run sterile or Bennie's? Organics or synthetics?

The way I do it is actually pretty simple. I just clean everything between cycles, I start to use enzymes after 3rd week, prior to that I use VeloKelp (I use Remo Nutrients) and I hear that has some beneficials in it be it in small quantity.
Cleanliness goes a long way but prevention is the key here. Beneficial bacteria simply works if you get a good product. I've always managed with just enzymes + cleaning the reservoir and whatnot between cycles. I think Remo Nutrients are synthetic for the most part, there was some organic elements to them also.

Beneficial bacteria can be a very good thing in top of it having a protection against pathogens. Most of the bennies are helping to convert the nitrogen to a form that is readily available to the plant. In larger quantities, specially if you feed the bacteria some carbohydrates and the bacterial colony grows large, this in turn may have alkaline effects to your reservoir so keep an eye on that if you go that route. If I happen to have a ever lowering pH in my reservoir, I do tend to cultivate this bacterial colony in order to promote more alkalinity, and it works pretty well to buffer that way too so this has some good uses for sure.

Hope this helps :pass:
