I have two 100 cfls I have in socket that states maximum 150w although the cfls are 100w/23w. So do I go by the 100w or the 23w. Is this a fire hazard? Thank you in advance

You would be risking the socket getting too hot, possibly starting a fire, I'd ad a second socket for safety

You are safe. The cfls are only 23W the 100 is to state that they has the same output as an old fashion wolfram bulb.

Thanks for the help. I have a Y adapter plugged into this then two 100w cfls in to the Y..

I have a similar clamp light and I run two 200/40 wat tcfl bulbs in a Y adapter. Over a year and no issues.

Yes they will get very hot, ever touched a cfl?
