Plants need to be feeded from the very beginning, no doubt, but calmag is nutrient itself. As well as stuff like Canna Rhizotonic, AN Voodoo j., in a little proportion of course. My calmag has ratio 1,2-0-0, but AN has 4-0-0 and I think Botanicare has 5-0-0. Generally calmags are made of nitrates and contain plenty of nitrogen.
Hansbricks (one of the best coco grower here around) started with first food at day 5 and here you can see one of the most fastest growing autos here around (first days). He finished with 200g dry. But calmag he uses has high N ratio and probably food for initial growth comes from there. Or is there another explanation? http://www.autoflower.org/threads/h...ow-think-different-autoblueberry.41432/page-2
So, when people say they do not feed, that might not be very true.
Maxi series is awesome stuff as well. Around $15 per kilogram, and fully complete on primary, secondary, and trace. Works wonders with tap or RO water. Has strong ph buffering, so most peoples hard water works perfect.
If using the Maxi series, I recommend one teaspoon per gallon for full strength. If you use the Koolbloom additive series, then 1/2 teaspoon of Maxi will be plenty. I do love the Koolbloom additives. Even though I think the Maxi series would give killer results alone.
I like cutting edge personally. Base nutes are cheapish $30 a gallon. Cal mag and other additives are much more. Like $87 a gallon. It last a long time, though! Fyi.
