New Grower Its been 4 days now from germination still no sprout

This is my first auto grow how long do autos generally take to sprout out of a pot after germination occured from paper towels...

Its planted in a 3 gallon pot 3/4 inch down the soil was soaked and left for 1/2 hour and is kept in a area around 75 degrees

I had plastis on top till I read it was bad to do

should it be under light
I read it should be in a warm dark place

I have it under a 100 cfl bulb now


I planted it friday eve it is now monday eve

being patient really is my thing

Firstly, head on over to the welcome section and introduce yourself and tell us a bit about yourself, your grow area etc...

Okay so i have a few questions!

Your first line is a bit confusing.
You ask about the time it takes to sprout from germination in paper towels.

The correct way is to place the seed between wet paper towels.
It should split open in about 24 hours and a tail should start to grow.
I leave mine in the paper towels till there are tiny white hairs on the tail, just my preference.
Once the seed is split it is no longer called a seed and becomes a sprout.

It is at this stage that you would transplant it very carefully.
Any damage to it and it may not come up.

3/4 inch deep is pretty deep and it will take a while to show it's head.
Make sure the medium is moist, not wet.
You can place a clear plastic drink cup over the area it is planted in until it breaks the soil.

If you keep it in a warm place it should do quite well.

Patience my friend!
Give it a few days to adjust to being in the pot and it will pop up sooner or later!

You do not need to have the light on if the place it is in is warm.
If it is in a cooler spot keep the light on for warmth.

I would give it at tops two weeks... You planted the seed to far down, will take time for it to grow out.... I've done before is after a few days like that and no pop (I've planted to deep before) I GENTLY dug around till I found seed with root... If you can do this ever so gently and not break off the tap root you can just recover with ALOT less dirt and you'll be good... Sending good germing karma your way

Posts above mine are dead on.. If it were my seed though
I dont want sound like I am telling you to play with the seed, but when i am concerned take a toothpick and push medium away far enough to see the seed hull. Recover with a single layer. Make sure soil is moist, and not drenched. I then normally place a plastic cup over the seed. I place pot where warm and not anywhere there is a draft. Then I dont fuck with the seed anymore. If it breaks the soil in a week or less all is good. If after two weeks, well you most likely killed the seed.

1/4 is plenty deep for a seed.

I use several different methods as well to germ. If you click on my name and read my journal thinking hey his germ method is great, remember it is not. Nor is it meant for a novice to use. To much can and does go wrong. Handle seedling/sprout with delicate hands.

Next time I advise germing, using paper towel method.

Ive dug it up a little and saw that the root was going side ways.....what s going to happen. The head was just about to pop thru so I took the soil out and left the head exposed

but man that was 4 days ago I see other sprouts growing leaves by then my poop little sprout just seems to be taking it time

But yesterday I dug around a bit and saw that the root was going sidways a bit
so right now Im just going to leave it alone

oh yeah the soil temp is about 82 as its in the furnace room
