Hi AFN, I got two main problems. First, is getting air to exhaust out the window. While making it unsuspicious from people walking into my front door. Not noticing anything like the port hole. Second, big huge problem is sugar ants billions will try to get inside my house through the duct exhaust hole. They always try to get inside my house from that window. Especially before a heavy rain or just any random times. I don't think they sell screens to let air flow pass, but keep tiny little ants from passing through. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Im going to cut a plywood rectangle to put in my window. An pop a 4in hole for the ducting and use a 4 in duct 90 degree elbow pointing downward. So my blinds can cover up the window from inside. Will I need to make some kind of plywood light trap? To conceal the ducting hole? Or pait it black an use black 4 in duct. I saw a fellow AFN grower use plywood exhausting outside. That's how I got the idea this is his set up. Forgot who the grower was. Heres his pic @912GreenSkell @archie gemmill @bushmasterar15 @Slater I tagged some fellow growers who might have had this problem.

this window is next your front door :yoinks: exhaust into the room and leave the window on the latch perhaps.
:pighug:
What is leave the window on the latch mean? If you mean like open a window my room will get really hot. An ants with invade quickly. If I use a carbon filter an exhaust into my room. It's going to stink like a scrubber hella bad. I need to somehow exhaust out the window. Why would it be bad? If I use a speed controller to silence my inline fan? An the carbon filter will kill odor?

You could get an old window Air-conditioning Unit from a thrift store and partially remove some if the workings to make a fake window unit to conceal your exhaust. Also portable air conditioners come with a special window kit that fits into most windows. This look completely normal from the outside. :pass::peace:

I'll keep an eye out for one but chances would be slim our thrift store is small

in theory the air comming out the carbon filter should be free from a weed smell.will still be a whiff in the room.

I tried it before thought it was going to kill me or something. Breathing it in my lungs. The carbon filter smells extremely strong in a closed ventilation set up. An will cause susipicion from family members. That visit will raise alarm

Craigslist/kijiji would likely pan out a unit, especially if you posted a wanted ad.

Window screen to keep ants out...would standard window screen not work for this?
These things drive me crazy. I have a window screen. They squeeze right through like nothing. An try to get in my window sill cracks. I spray them with bleach. An it kills like 75 percent of them but they still fight to get in. A few make it in still. If they catch me offguard not good. There so small that it's absolute hell dealing with them. I need to start spraying poison or something. I never heard of any other grower having this problem.

Thanks I'll look into the AD. That's risky scammers flood Craigslist people be trying to send fake checks. Lots of liars to you meet. Worked for a greedy asshole didn't want to pay. Owed me 500$ for work

Can you vent through the floor?
i have a piece of plywood cut out that I use in the summer, but when it's cold I vent through the wall into my bedroom. Never a bad smell unless you get a whiff of my dirty sock! :crying::gassy1::crying:

As far as ants, buy some boric acid and mix 50/50 with sugar. Wet the mixture and use foil to make little cups. Pour into cups and let dry! Place cups anywhere you see ants! You may have to repeat yearly! :headbang:
