DIY Jcloud's ventilation help thread

WOW! Thanks a ton I was actually considering building a silencer box if nothing worked. Im going to take your advice. An try to build a strong silencer box out of wood or something??? What'd you use to build yours? An the inline fan still fit on the carbon filter? much needed advice thanks before I go through the trouble. I will check out the sts fan see what your talking about. My tent is a 2 x 2 x 3.

I used 1/2" MDF for the box. Lined the box with carpet. Packed tight round the out side of the fan with old sofa cushion foam. Nice and dense that stuff. I also hang my box from my loft rafters so it touches nothing, you will be surprised at how much the vibration of the fan carry through the ceiling.

Duct silencers are cheap and effective and Hyper Fans are great with built in speed control.

6 inch is the smallest but with it dialed down will not move too much air.

A reducer sounds like a good idea. What y'all think if I get a tiny miniature 4 in carbon filter. Will it be able to scrubb the pdor for all my plants? An will the smell be unbearable you think? A guy on another forum said I shouldn't need a vent. It's not necessary if anything fresh air coming in be better. not going out. At the moment I can't afford these materials yet. If I were just to exhaust in my room. It shouldn't like mess up my lungs breathing the carbon stuff in my room all day? An I was thinking what if I get guests. I could just turn the lights and inline fan off. All day they are here until they leave. Would this be a good option for now until I can afford the material. An figure out something to bring fresh air from my window. Trying to figure out exactly the best way to go about this so im not wasting money. An taking longer to get my grow going.

As far as ants, buy some boric acid and mix 50/50 with sugar. Wet the mixture and use foil to make little cups. Pour into cups and let dry! Place cups anywhere you see ants! You may have to repeat yearly! :headbang:
Yes, this will kill any ant consuming it. But this is very inefficient, not optimal.

You should make a 2%-4% boric acid:confectioners (finely powdered) sugar mixture, mix it well, then spread little piles or containers around inside and outside. This mixture costs nearly nothing. In the summer, I just make approx. 1 gram piles every 5-6 feet around the house, and may redo if it rains within a few days. And other than purely long-distance lone scouts, I never get ants in my house.

The ants take the sugar:boric acid powder back to their nest, where you ideally want the queen to be fed some of this pure sugar rocket fuel. Otherwise, you can kill all the ants that come using quick-kill-type poisons, but that won't do anything about poisoning the colony, especially the queen -- without her, no more new ants, colony dies (besides food stash being poisoned). It can take up to a week to totally not see any ants, kill the close-by colonies.

Been using my mixture for over 40 years with better success than all of the commercially available ant insecticides put together. My current residence has been ant free for many years now maybe 15 years. The neighbor a few houses down had California Fire ants and it got rid of them in two weeks.

Venting in the same room is not a health issue of any kind but the temperature and humidity will rise out of control. If the room is closed the co2 levels will drop below desirable levels. You really need to vent to the out doors and pull in fresh air from outside. Unless you have a new house which can be airtight infiltration is usually enough fresh air.

Thanks for the advice. Once I can afford it im going to vent outside may need to use your reducer tip most likely. Im going to do a 100% T5 grow. An im going to get a really small carbon filter 4 in, so it can fit in my grow tent perfectly. It's only 2 x 2 of room.

I ended up using a dryer vent kit that goes outside and used a 6" to 4" reducer for my connection to my exhaust.

My top exhaust is 9 in port hole. I originally thought I needed a reduce. After, reading the Amazon customer questions an reviews. I learned any size ducting will work. The grow tent port is adjustable I just tie it closed up snug. That reducer pic gave another great idea.

Wish I still had pics of when I first installed everything but I made the mistake of deleting folder I had those pics in.
