Indoor Journal-White Widow (Ministry of Cannabis) First Grow

Thanks, Gent, this was the info I was looking for. I did raise the lights a bit two days ago for the reason you stated ...no difference yet, of course.

Hi folks-

Okay, here they are at Day 18,19.

Just a reminder … my grow cabinet is quite a bit different than most. The ceiling (with horizontally clustered CFLs) is gasketed and is raised (or lowered post LST) resulting in a variable volume grow space. All surfaces are covered in mylar with the 89% of the ceiling being reflective (11% of the ceilings area is venting. (Original post in this thread has link to grow space/cabinet details.)

This is an experimental design. I have no idea whether this design is better or worse than any other approach. My initial thinking regarding the design was that it would heavily favor (be beneficial in) the vegetative stage, mildly beneficial during early flowering and would be a wash in late flowering. I also thought it would be likely that the design would tend to grow more compact and bushy plants. (The design also has its drawbacks.)

Of course, the biggest variable in this experiment is the noob doing the growing. If you are interested in how the experiment turns out, you may want to check in/chime in periodically to make sure that I don’t screw it up so much as to compromise/invalidate the experiment’s outcome.

Current grow space: 21” x 21” by 19” high (wish I was) or 1.6 cubic feet. Ceiling will be raised an inch tomorrow.

Lights: 8 23W CFLs (6@6500K. 2@5000K. 24/0.
Nutes: None yet

Please provide feedback on how the plants look, particularly relative to my comments above.

BTW, I know this may sound like a funny question, but what STAGE are these plants in right now? When would you change to 2700K???

Thanks in advance-

Tom B.

First picture is oldest plant (Day 19) the other two pics are the younger one.

(I'm having trouble seeing the images full size-don't know why. I think you can see it in my album. Any ideas as to why you can't see it enlarged??? Thanks!

Is there any reason you want longer spaces between nodes? The spacing you have looks great! It allows you to have a more even canopy, and one that is fuller/denser later on when during flowering.

Thanks for the comments gtron, podman, and hazy.

Please remember I'm a first time grower, don't really know what I'm doing, have a few questions and really need some help here. Anyone?????

- Re lighting: When would you change to 2700K? When would you change to 20/4 cycle?

Is this plant in preflower, late preflower, or flower??

They are in FF OF and HF. I have FF Trio. I want to start nutes tomorrow when I water. What besides Grow Big do you recommend, if anything?? I was planning a gentle start but I don't know what gentle means with FF OF.

What do you think I should do?

Third picture in my last post (#13) is at Day 19 (yesterday).

Thanks in advance.

Give them a feed at 2ml per ltr of Grow Big.
Make sure you mix it well before feeding and don't just dump it in pour some in, let it soak in well pour a little more, etc
The idea is to get a good thorough soak of your medium and have about 30% of the volume you fed drain out.
They should be able to handle FFGB at that strength just fine.
if they don't show any signs of distress, bump it up to 3mls per ltr on the next feed.
I cant see the picture in a large format but I think you are barely in preflower.
Don't change to 2700 until well into flower if you want to maximize the size of the plant.
Put it under 2700 asap to keep it smaller.

Day 22, 21

Day 23, 22.

On Day 20, they had their first feeding (FF Grow Big and Big Bloom.)

Immediately after feeding, runoff was about 6.5 (drops)

The ceiling of the grow space has been raised, grow spaced dimensions are now 21"x21"x22"h. Lighting remains unchanged w/ 8 23W mixed 6500K (6) and 5000K (2) CFLs. They are24/0 now. I was going to change to20/4. Is this still a good idea?? (I’ll change to 2700K down the road.)

Plant #1 (“My Gal Pal”) germinated first. Since my last post, I became concerned that its bushiness was preventing light from reaching bud sites so
I raised the lights over THIS plant to deliberately inducing some stretch. Today, I lowered these lights to stop excessive stretching.

This is “My Gal Pal” on Day 23. What do you think? Both positive and negative feedback encouraged.

Now that it is less bushy do you recommend LST or just let it grow naturally? (I’m nervous about attempting LST but game to try.)

This is Plant #2 named “W”, the slow Bush…it germinated only a day later (now at Day 22) but is probably 3 days behind My Gal Pal. I’m thinking about inducing some stretch into this plant as well. What’s your opinion regarding this idea??

As a first time grower who doesn’t know WTF he is doing, feedback and/or encouragement would be appreciated.

Thanks-

C'mon, can't anyone advise on whether I should LST Plant #1 (immediately above)?? Not feelin' the love ...

Day 30. 29

Here they are at Day 30. 29.

They seem to be doing well at least to me. Its been an easy grow so far (knock on wood) with no major issues.

Up until recently, the plants were highly compact with a dense even canopy which seemed to make LST not a needed/desirable option. Then their growth pattern changed making LST desirable if for no other reason than allowing more light to reach deeper into the plant. So I took a stab at doing some light LST even though this is my first grow.

Lighting was changed over to 2700K yesterday, and I'm starting to switch some of the 8 23 watts CFL to 46 watt 2700K bulbs. Currently running 6 23 watt and 2 46 watt, will probably end up with 4 23w and 4 46w for a total of 276 watts.

Comments are appreciated.

Best regards-
T

I do not know why some of my attachments can't be enlarged.

Here is a picture of the older plant (Day 30). Hopefully, you can enlarge this image.
