Live Stoner Chat Kinda new grower......getting back at it

Thanks so much for the quick reply @Grim Reefer.......looks like the cooltube would have less of an effective lighting angle vs the cooled reflector. Would that be correct?
Something else I've been pondering is exhausting the hot air. Would a "dedicated" fan constantly blowing through the cooltube or reflector be necessary or could I simply run an exhaust fan? Now that I look at the reflector or cooltube, perhaps my question is moot.....lol.
HPS and LED does sound like a kick ass set up. Hopefully I can time my purchases so I can start with the HPS/MH and then buy a LED for flowering.
I used to mod for a few satellite hobby forums years ago and it was always fun trying to keep up with the nuances of each software package. Seems like we were always updating the tuts to reflect the latest features.....

Thanks again for all the help!!

No problem at all @horton711
Yes you are right about the cooled hood it is better for reflection and covers a much bigger area compared to the cool tube.
Now cooling your lights with just an exhaust fan might work but it has to be big and powerful enough to do the job.
It also depends on how far away the fan is from the bulb and how many bends and corners are in the ducting that will be used for the air to travel in.
The following air measurement might be different in you area but you can convert them through google if you have the time.
For a 600w Bulb in a hooded reflector you need one exhaust fan capable of at least 420m3/h.
Out side Europe this measurement comes in as CFM so you will need to convert that figure to CFM on Google.
Just to be on the safe side you could get yourself a small but cheap intake fan to help take the pressure of your exhaust, something like this one below would work just fine as its actually designed for this purpose. This is called a Vents TT 125m.

I hope this helps.

Thanks once again, @Grim Reefer......
If I did the conversion correctly, I'd need ~250 CFM for an exhaust fan. That shouldn't be too noisy, right?
The intake fan you mention --- is the main purpose to "compensate" for the volume of air removed by the exhaust so the tent doesn't "suck in" on itself?
I seem to remember using small oscillating fans in my room to create air currents to help strengthen the plants -- don't know if that idea was folly or science.....lol I don't think it did much to cool the room down.
Hopefully my germination cubes and other items will be delivered this weekend (gotta love that Sun. delivery Amazon offers) I have collected my 5 gal buckets, air pump, stones, and hoses together and now it's down to the big stuff -- tent and lighting. I feel like a kid in a candy shop looking at all the options -- just wish my pocketbook was as big as my aspirations!!! lol

I know the feeling dude its so exciting. The other fan i mentiod is to help the suck in the air and take some of the presure off your main fan. Youd have your main fan at the end of the ducting and the other small fan at the front.

Why does Amazon seem to have everything I need to get growing?? Very convenient and also discreet. Not one package indicated its contents.
So far I have only LED lights so I'm not yet worried about too much excess heat.
I probably should have made a video of my wife and I trying to put the 4' x 4' x 80" tent up. It sure seems to dominate the small bedroom where it sits now. There were a few tense moments when we were worried it was facing the wrong way and there is not enough room to easily shift it around but it worked out just dandy in the end. Fired up the LED's in the tent to get an idea of what they were like and I'm glad I'd purchased (from Amazon of course) the protective glasses. Those LED's are bright!!
I used Ronin's method for germ and so far 2 have come up and awaiting a couple more to sprout. The buckets and Hydroton are awaiting the new seedlings.
I'm really psyched and hope this "inaugural" grow will be a success. Thanks again for the help and warm welcome!!!

Good luck. The start can be a bit slow but you won't realise it before you've got something to be proud of.
Putting up my tent was like something out of a bad sit com, I asked for a small 60x60 - thats my space, he gave me an 80x80, spent a day trying to get it in with a friends help. The friendship became strained about 2 hours of : "Move it to the left" , "I can't" "Stop pushing it", "I'm not f*cking pushing it, it's too f*cking big I'm telling you". , "No, we nearly had it there", etc. Brought it back and got the proper size, which was still an arse to put up and fit in the space by about a millimetre, cue more swearing.
