cheers for that oldbie, i am also having problems with pH mine is 7.4 Did you add the lemon juice after the nutes? ,I have the liquid ph tester and i am not sure how accurate they are, judging the colour/ph by the chart seems a bit like guess work to me.

hi
@doobydoobydo , sorry for delay in getting back to you; didn't see any alerts so just forgot about it -I'm a bit of a thread-hopper sometimes.
my pH tester is just one of those cheap 2-prong jobbies that I got for next to nothing direct from China; it works well, BUT only if you clean the prongs everytime before you use it (need to get rid of oxidisation build-up to get an accurate reading), wish I had an accurate digi readout but already spent a fortune on my hobby this year.
yeah those liquid testers are a bit of a guess; maybe order one of these as a stepping stone to getting a good one

think I might order one too.
my nutes as such are natural feeds-nettle, comfrey, fish-pond water, molasses, bit a this, bit a that; not terribly scientific-I run on instinct at this stage of gardening life, (doesn't always work mind you-where was my intuition the day I put too much lime in my mix?).
generally I fill my watering can, test it, then bung in enough lemon-juice/vinegar until the pH is where I want it;
I made it over-low (5-5.5) in the beginning to counteract the high pH and then more in the ideal range with subsequent waterings.
hope that link works-seems very long for a link- I ll find out soon as I post this and try it.
ok, another very long-winded post from Oldbie
