You ask people or google ideal autoflower pot size and everyone's gotta different opinion. Seeing a few amazing grows doing less plants in bigger pots and getting seriously good results. Ill be honest I was in the opinion they don't get long enough to veg to need a pot that size. Now? I'm unsure lol.

How about we collect some data and just try have a look at actual facts? Guessing the questions would be.

Strain name?
Light used?
How many plants?
What size pots?
Total yield?

Try and get as much info as we can then see what the average yield is for what pot size to work out the ideal pot size.

You forgot potency? What good are big huge buds if you can't get get high from them or sell them.

But then I'd say everyone's opinion on that can be different? I'm just trying to find out the ideal pot size for autos. Yours and some others have got me thinking lol

SIZE DOES MATTER !

"thats what she said"

lol had too

peace

But to which degree. If I grew 4 plants in 7 litre pots will I still get the same as 1 plant in a 18 litre pot? With non autos you can yes but autos don't get long to veg...however some are getting amazing results. Also would be good to see the difference in terms of weight by going up a pot size. If using 10litres gives you an average 1oz but 30 litres gives you 1oz and 3 grams your better to fit another 10litre inside the tent. Hope that makes sense

Well ninja1 as per previous discussions on this matter i was of a similar train of thought as yourself, now though after hitting 63g from a Blue Mystic auto in soil in a 6.5l pot under 250w dual spec (mostly she was one of 4 plants throughout grow briefly 5!) I'm feeling more convinced that less plants in bigger pots might be the way to go. I'm stoked at the 63g but that yield totally surprised me from a shitty looking plant. I'm pretty sure the problems i encountered with that girl were due to her being rootbound but if i got 63g under those conditions what would she have given me in say a 10l airpot? I've got 4 beans left from my last purchase (Candy kush, chocolate skunk, pyschofruit, and a grape muerta) i was was going to put these 4 in for next grow beginning of July but now i'm veering towards 2 in 10l airpots. The only thing thats holding me back is the thought that what if it comes down to quality of seed? I've grown Barney's farm pineapple express on 2 different occassions, i love 'em ( i know some don't!) great tasting weed but small plants, the 1st time i grew it in a 6.5l square pot and it gave me roughly 3/4 oz the 2nd time i put one in a 7.5l round pot so it had an extra litre of medium but the plant grew smaller and yielded less? i know the difference between 6.5l & 7.5l probably isn't significant but i've just got this nagging fear that i could end up going with 2 in larger pots and getting substantially less than 4 in smaller pots, but hey ho there's only one way to find out so i'm going to bite the bullet and try it next grow!

Yeah thats the same as me ive not got the balls to find out just yet but only as ive got a crap yield this time around and another crap yield will just piss me off big time. Ive hit over 3oz from a 6.5 litre and thats more than enough for me lol. Im gonna 100% try the less plants in bigger pots next grow. thinking 6plants in 15litres or something.

nutrition for the plants is so key... we need to have a nutritional information tied to it... otherwise its sorta pointless...

its like training an olympian and then feeding them "wahtever"

doest work...

:2cents:

i see huge differences based on pot size as well... but nutrition is a huge factor... HUGE factor.. :toke:

JM, you're right to a certain degree, however we would need to start collecting data points somewhere. Ideally we'd get a fully detailed list of what everyone has used or fed to their plants, but we can certainly start gathering relevant data and even draw some rudimentary conclusions from JUST pot size or volume of media, etc. The problem that arises would be the consistent measurement and elimination of error inherent in crowd sourced information, however just getting some hard numbers on any variable in the grow would be a great place to start.

yeah lets get some basics... then we can form an actual survey and collect better data later... lets get the basics figured...

so ...

healthy plants should have 2X as much root unerground as you see plant above....
and truly healthy plants will produce so much sugar and humic substance that they can exude 70% to the soil they are in when handled properyl... typically most plants only exude a max of 20% sugars... and low fat or no fat content. this all comes back to biology and trace elements.

clearly there are a lot of factors we'll be overlooking for this...
