Hi again folks, I've got another question.

I've been using BioBizz light for all of my grows up to now, and each one since my first has been strange. They all appear to be pH 5.6 out of the bag!

Now I've switched to Plagron light because I thought it was just crappy soil, but this one is also pH 5.6 at my first watering.

This leads to me to believe that I'm doing something wrong here. Is there something I need to do before planting my seeds to neutralize the pH? I read somewhere that it needs a little time from first watering to stabilize the pH because of all the microbes in the soil. Any advice please?

You might need to mix some dolomite/lime into your soil to buffer the PH up. I believe you can also water in some lime.

That's exactly what I'd recommend, 1-2 tbsp of dolomite lime per gallon of soil...:toke:

You're gonna want to moisten the soil and let that "cook" for 2 weeks or more before planting...

FWIW, the best out-of-the-bag soil I've used is Roots Organics...

Never used BioBizz though...

Ugh more bloody lime? This isn't fair! Everyone else's soil is 6.5 out of the bag :(

Not always bro ...ive had roots at 5.6-5.8 .

I use there green fields this go ...its suppose to be large containers outside soil but it does just fine ...makes fabulous babies and that's the only brand that was 6.4 ......

With bio bizz light i have through out this grow not PHd my feed at all and now my run off PH is bang on 6.5 have you calibraited your PH pen?? Ive herad alot of people PHing there soil before use but personaly start growing then PH after the first 2-3 feedings?? There is also alot of people that say bio bizz doesnt buffer correct which is why i decided to try a few things ( Not PHing me feed) Bio Bizz say if the PH is between 5.6 and 7.0 then it will buffer And if you are using chemical PH up and down that will mess with your PH it kills any micro activity in the soil :2cents:

Agreed..calibration may be off as you are getting the same results with different soils. I use BB light and have found it stable and excellent

Thanks for the replies :) I frequently calibrate my pH pen with pH 7 buffer solution.

Completely agree si, I havent used my pH pen in time! It just sits on my table lol. I think trying to pH when using organics is a waste of time. Unless you have an organic pH +/-. That was my problem on my last grow, I kept having vary low pH reading like 5.8, and I kept getting lock outs, and should of just let the soil do its thing. :2cents:

Yep, I bought a Hanna 98129 and havent used it since my first grow. Of course I run organic also.
