That was fascinating. The time people put in. And money. It's crazy. I am impressed big time.

Cars suck you in though. I had an old Suzuki 4x4 from 85 I went through hell with rebuilt the gearbox, welded a rollbar, installed a liftkit, and the last year I installed a GTI-engine.
For the money over the years I could have gotten a Jeep limited off roader.
But I had a good time.

That Suzuki Samurai my buddy had out in Pearl, had to be a 70 something model. It was beat up and a rust bucket, but that thing would go places on the North Shore the other Jeep only dreamed about. It was because it was so tiny. If you rolled it on its side it was easy to turn over!
It could be a really short trip to work, if we took the boat. But with our stupid work schedule, we could seldom ever use it. Sometimes we would just have to take it into work. 45 miles an hour was where he felt comfortable wringing that damn thing out to!
The engine was tiny too!

I wish I knew how much he billed ol' Cleetus! Probably $200/hr up per person working on it.

Those little trucks with locking diffs will take you.. most places And they are crazy fun. But on the jeeps you have comfort I have driven an sj413 on a highway with the soft top. Felt like in Indiana Jones and the temple of the doomed when they go down that mountain in an inflatable boat with stuff flapping. The engine SCREAMING, Trucks honking and yes. Traumatic.
Jeeps do a better job on the road 100% The new Jimnys I think do all right, think @Mossy drives one of those.

And the SJ413 was a 2 seater. The backseat was not compliant with laws where I lived then and when the kids started popping up everywhere I needed a larger truck. A crew cab. But I couldn't afford one so I went minivan.
