The Dude is extremely social, loves all dogs, cats and people…. Never issues…

Which is why you pay attention when he’s standoffish with a new person (or dog for that matter).. if he won’t let someone get close to me, something is up. He’ll stay in front of them and even move them back…
Dogs have remarkable radar. My mutt on a couple of occasions has recognized a mean dog from ~40 meters away before the dog did anything that I could detect. One of them turned out to be a real piece of work by the time we passed it on the trail, as in full throated snarling and lunging so hard against the leash that I was not sure which was going to give out first, the woman's ability to stand up and hold the bugger back, or the leash. Had either failed, there would have been quite the mess, likely injuries all round.

OTOH, once in a while she knows that a new dog is up for play before they even do the sniffie thing. I understand a bit about dog signalling, but at times I have absolutely no idea how she does it. I assume it is a subtle posture or facial thing, but who knows.

Peeps seem to have decent radar at least once in a while. Years ago my ex met a guy at the door. She only saw him long enough for her to call me, I was hiring him to do some work around the place. After he left she told me that under no circumstances was he to be working at our place while she was there alone. We found out quite a while later that he had been thrown in jail for sexual assault. I didn't notice a thing, but she knew in seconds that this guy was bad news. :cheers:

I've been using Momma cat psychology on Lil'Bit for the last few days. :biggrin: :eyebrows::eyebrows:

I'll put the food in the bowls and then I'll pick Lil'Bit up by the scruff of the neck to make him go into "Docile Kitten" mode. I then lay him into the palm of my other hand and I can then stroke and pet him as I praise him.
After a little bit of petting, I pick him up by the scruff again and set him back down by the food bowls.
Yeah, I checked a couple days ago, using the scruff to calm. ........yup....little Tom cat.

Here's scruffy Lil'Bit!:funny::funny:View attachment 1764056
