I would say so for a lot of people! Nowadays u can get a cheap coffin and a plot where people like @420Forever bring their dog to walk and drop dumps and a crappy service and still spend $20k+! Not sure about over there but they sell funeral insurance here but not sure on the details of cost or anything just seen commercials for it before! :bighug:

'bout a third of the price of a basic traditional funeral in the UK.... :headbang: ...

Lots of people have insurance...and quite a few people prepay their own funeral plans... thinking every thing was covered... then a few of the funeral plan businesses went bust...and people were getting 15 pence to the £1 back on what they put in.

I think I’m eligible for a burial at sea…. It’s neat, they keep your punk ass in the freezer until the time is right then they chunk your ass overboard…. :headbang: :headbang:   I like to think my body would be off gassing the weed smell at such a rate that the freezer would smell like a grow room and they would toss me a little early because they’re a bunch of fookin squares :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::smokeout:

Draining the main vein. These little pumps work great. I installed little bibs at the bottom of my trays so I can just pump out the runoff.

How do they do funerals in the US..?.. :pass: ..in the UK funerals were pretty traditional..very church orientated... whether you liked it or not.

Then they started to loosen up a bit ..you could have a humanist do the service..instead of a religious figure...but..honest..that was not much better.. IMO.

But..you had options.

Then a few years ago a new concept come in...the No service cremation..

When someone dies..they pick the body up..and within a month they return the ashes to you..if you want them back...:pass:..and.. that's it.

Me Mother hated funerals so much...that she donated her body to medical science years ago.....her rational..no body..no funeral.

So anyway..these adverts come up on UK TV about these no service cremation and she said..if med science don't want my body.. (they didn't)..I want one of those.

She got it..and I have to say...it was her last gift to us...

We are a blended family..5 older step children..and me and my brother.

My real brother and my step brother have a hatred going on..that has ended in full blown fist fights...and the only reason they kept it in check was outta respect for me mother.
At her funeral would be just the place for it to kick off.. with her not standing in between them...:headbang:..

He also hates me step sister...:d5:..yeah.. families huh...?..but I get on with both of them.......

So it puts me in an awkward position...my real brother doesn't want me sharing info with the step family... outta respect I'm sharing it.....gawd....

Funeral would be fraught huh...?..apart from having to fly over....I'd be living on me nerve ends having to keep me eyes on me bros when they got a few drinks in them...:pass:

But she cut all that crap out...:bighug:.. Bless her.

The hardest part was her passing...not the funeral stress...

When my mother chose the no service option..hubby and me talked and chose the same..we pre-warned the kids......if either of us dies you will just get a phone call.. don't bother grabbing a flight coz there will be no service to come to.

When I phoned my step bro and sis I said.... BTW...we have chosen the same option..:d5:..and both said...so have we...

Are we looking at the end of the traditional funeral....?...:headbang:... can't come fast enough... IMO..:pass:

Look what my sister said...

We decided long ago that we were going to have funerals
without any ceremony.its less painful for the kids and a lot cheaper
.

She's absolutely spot on...:pass:.. easier on the kids..

(And us kids are in our 60-70's.......)
In Canada theres all kinds of ways. It is a truly multicultural place.

Some view the body, some have funerals, some memorials, wakes, celebrations of life....etc

My mother chose cremation. I recieved her ashes yesterday.

I asked her in the days before she passed "if you were alive to see it, what would you want?" She said "whatever your sister and you need."

We will have a celebration of life on the 15th. We reached out to people she loved who she touched and most (but not all) immediate family.

She was a Buddhist and saw the butterfly as a metaphor for living and dying. Like a phoenix sort of.

Closest family can scatter her ashes in the ocean at her stomping grounds after the celebration.

Simple, small, casual, flowers coffee tea and finger food....

Much less sad, easier, and less expensive than a funeral. We are frickin busy with her belongings rent utilities gov paperwork etc etc....
