What up AFN, looking for some more advice from all of you out there, this time about lollipoping Autoflowers :D . . Many questions, can it be done on an Auto? When should it be started? Any potential problems? Any tricks tips?? Thanks for any replys!!

I've done my homework on this so as far as i'm aware: You wait until the plant has shown its sex, then measure the height. . . Divide the height by 3 and totally trim the whole bottom third of the plant. The idea is the plant will push all its energy and new growth into the main cola for a bigger top. . Has anyone had experience with this? Especially with an Auto . .
I have a SamSara Shot Adrenaline (Auto fem) which i got as a freebie, threw it into the grow and she's 16 days old today (still not sexed yet) . . So i was gonna mess around with it and try different things (my little test subject :D). .

Thanks in advance for any replys, i won't touch a leaf until i get some advice of AFN . . You guys always come through

Peace:peace:

P.S i apologize if there is a thread started on this already but i did look and i didn't come across anything

Hey POD, haven't seen anyone do this with an auto. It's not normally a good idea to put an auto under too much stress as the life cycle is so short that you lose valuable grow time while it recovers, there is also a risk of the plant going hermie on you.
Having said that... if you are willing to carry on with your experiment you could start a seperate thread on it and let us all know if it works or not. If you're willing to run the risk of losing that plant that is

Thanks Smokey and Highman  Anything i read up on this method didn't have anything mentioned about Auto's so i had to make sure. . I thought it might have stressed a small bit but i couldn't run the risk of a hermy as its in the grow with all my ladies and i've read you can get premature males that could pollen before you even notice. . It seems Auto's don't like a lot of things. Might just stick to LST :D

Thanks dude's

I am going to chime in here for a bit!

My auto's were growing like crazy and had so many fan leaves on all the bud sites were covered.
I tried leaf tucking for a while and they just popped right back up after a few days.
The i started slow defoliation, only the ones in the way were removed.
As i started to see it only slowed them down a bit i removed more to reveal more bud sites.

On finishing they look like this

I am not advocating you do this as it seems to affect different strains in different ways!
Some just keep moving along while others have been known to stall!

Thanks for the input Lazylathe

That is a sweet pic, like cola's all over the place!! It's definitely something to think about, as I said it'll be my test subject for something :D. . What strain did you do this with?? And when did you start the defoliation??

Thanks dude

Hi P.O.D,

The strain is Auto Bubbelicious from Nirvana.
They all auto'd which is a good thing!

They were about full grown when i started the defoliation process.
Slowly at first and then the next few times i literally had piles of leaves on the floor after doing one plant!

My reasoning was that it was already flowering and that there were so many leaves still left afterwards.
As you can see i left a few big fan leaves on so as not to starve the plants too much.
I was also hoping that by removing most of the large fan leaves i would also be removing a lot of the nutes built up in them.
This will only be known after drying and curing for sure!
I plan on leaving almost all of the sugar leaves on when drying, i like it when they wrap their loving arms around the bud!

Should have a smoke report in a month or so!

:peace:

high there. i grew out some white dwarf plants which had loads of bud sites covered by the fan leaves [the smaller ones] about 7-8 weeks in i removed the leaves so the light could reach the bud sites better with no side effects at all.however now i have a little bedside lamp with a 45w cfl on top. this sits right in the middle of my plants at about half the height of my plants seems to help me out without the need to mess with my ladys.i only grow 4 at a time and seem to get reasonable yields this way. above my ladys i have a 250w cfl and a 65w cfl.works for me.. hope this helps alittle.all the best.. hazy daze.:bong:

Thanks Lazylathe!! My 3 Auto Blueberry i also have are 6 weeks from sprouting and showed sex on day 16. . Bud sites are getting huge and slowly getting covered in trichomes . . Most of the bigger leaves are yellow and crumbling away do you think it'd be okay to remove them?? Everything is perfect except for the yellow leaves, bud sites are literally huge and fattening up daily . . Everytime i clean the room its just bits and pieces of leaf . . (Obviously they have a deficiency but i stopped nutes and only gave pure water, then mollasses/epsom salt and then pure water again the last 3 times i watered them and the leaves are still going bad). . My budsites are like something out of High Times though!! :D (Its my first grow so i'm excited :D)
Once the plant is flowering the leaves die of at the end anyway?? Maybe i'll let them go a bit longer before i start pulling as you started when your plant was nearing the end. .

Thanks dude

Thanks for the advice Hazy Daze
It makes sense to simply add another small light to avoid stripping the ladies, i was considering hanging a few fluorescent tubes vertically around them to help all the lower/side buds. . I have a 250w HPS over my ladies but due to the budsites and leaves on top being so big had to LST and bend them in all ways. . Still need to spend 5/10 minutes positioning them under the light to avoid shadows from the cola and to make sure all buds get their equal share of light. .

Thanks bro
