so. i have started a hybrid hempy bucket. stoned and thinking about it and just did it. not i need the advice to keep things going proper and help ensuring the survival of the seed.

so i took the 5 gallon bucket. put 3 tap holes for my res run off. perlite to just above the tap holes. perlite vermiculite mix til about 6 inches from top. from there up its a soil mix. to start the seed in soil, keep from having to feed it anything but water for the first 2 weeks and just to see how it will work out.
the thought process was simulating the plant sprouting near a water source and tapping down to an underground res. any one have any experience doing anything similar? i know it might fail miserably. but why not try something different? any input advice or criticism is welcome. if its a dumb ass idea tell me lmao. its not to late to save the seed if its just a bad plan

The roots are going to go wherever there is water, and roots naturally go down. So I wouldn't worry about taproots not going down and sucking water from the bottom of the pot, your perlite layer.

I have a few thoughts for what to look out for. I will follow that for sure if you start a log.

The water may pour straight through the Vermiculite/Perlite in channels rather than spread, leaving dry spots. In the nursery business we are very careful with pots when it comes to Bulk Density and Particle size diversity in soil substrates. If you go with layers, the water table could be in the wrong part of pot, due to not enough air spaces. Also Vermiculite especially has a very high CEC compared to soil, it may attract the majority of your nutes to that layer. If she get deficient that is likely why. If I were to try this system, I would try to keep the bottom of the pot in some water, and hope that it would wick into the soil layer. It may never unless it was saturated before sitting in water.
