Lower leaf issue spreading

hey justgabe,

checked the run off this morning and it looks exactly right (about 6.5)

so I continued and flushed a few gallons of water through her with qtr str nutes.

Also posted a couple of new pictures which are hopefully clearer than the ones I posted yesterday.

I guess my worry is that it is going to eventually destroy the buds (as they are all showing this).

I still think you're having ph issues, don't know what to tell you without a proper ph meter.

The soil test kits are not that clever realy you need a PH pen i have trialed the test kits and dont personal think they were as good as you think:2cents:
With the bio bizz range i find i dont often have any PH issues and im on like my 5th bag and second lot of nutes i find alot of the problems people post about bio bizz is when they use all mix.... I use light mix that way i know exacaly what i need to put in my soil as there is nothing at all in the lightmix to start with.. I do not PH my feed unless they were in a desperate way as long as you put it in the range of around 6.7 and 5.2 my run off when i check it is always 6.3/ 6.5

I have a similar issue but none of the red by the buds or on the new growth ....will post pics tommorow ...sending te best karma I got your way !

Howdy mjdregba looks like the tail end of a minor PH swing. Truly, not near the level mine have been. Keep on slowly getting the PH close to the mark and the flowers will be a-okay.

Guys, I really appreciate all of the comments.

Thanks Alan - I have posted new pics - the deficiency has spread to the tops of all cola's now and every single leaf, plus every stem to each leaf is now red.

hey si1984, what Nutes are you using with lightmix and do you add anything to the soil when preparing?

with regards the PH kits, I have two - one for soil (as in you put a few mm of soil in the tube) and one for water. The soil one is very difficult to read as the soil taints the color of the water. However I have the water test kit working nicely and the light green color depicts a PH of 6.5 (ish). My run off is 6.5(ish) and I made my own PH Up using Baking Soda so all feeds are now around the 6.5 mark.

The combination of PH out of range and being on a feeding schedule does cause lock-outs. Some nutes are mobile and some are not and many are dependent on each other. It gets messy.

I too started with the water kit. Do try and get a PH meter. It will help. With the meter you can also check soil with a sample of soil and distilled water prior to the grow or during (approximation--closer than the probe).

In addition, I too used baking soda, but only once in an emergency. Recommend the regular up and down solution. Look for food grade if you are concerned about effecting soil microbes (a point of much discussion). What I have found is that adjusting is a two step process: If you uses RO water you need some PPM or conductivity. Can add a quart of so of spring water to a gallon of RO to get the PPM up to 125-150 or so for uptake. Alternatively, add cal/mag at teaspoon per gallon to RO or distilled water. If you are lucky and have good household water use it after letting it sit for 24 hours or bubble for same.

First--PH the water per above. Use to water plants. If you add nutes, always PH first then add nutes and then PH again. This has to do with buffering. However, follow the instruction of the nutes they may have some PH balancing feature.

I have had a plant similar to yours and many lesser affected. It is the PH and I understand how you feel. Amazing how sensitive canna is. Keep on babying it and you will learn a lot.

Alan, thank you again - your post is like reading canna scripture :)

My water is crap I think, its natural PH is around 6-6.5 so probably is lacking in some of the micro metals.

I had a "ferk it" moment last night and unfortunately went and added some chem nutes (before you posted), it has an NPK of 20,20,20 and 7 or so micro nutes in it.. I PH'd it with my Baking Soda liquid and the nutes were 1/4 strength... checked on her this morning and she looks perked up... the leaves which are black on the buds have grown out and straight...

This is the first time in weeks where she has looked more healthy than the day before; so, its either the PH stabilizing or the chem nutes - time will now tell.

what is the issue with baking soda? that was some advice given to me on an earlier post?

my apologies on the reluctance to invest in a probe and proper PH Up - that would be the best part of £70 ($110) in the UK, and if this grow fails I will need funds to replace my meds.

Hey mate, I got my ph pen and up and down, for about £45 + postage, from Greens Horti...best investment ever! :smokebuds:
