Thought it was time to break some of these last Masterlow seeds out and see if they are still going to germ. These are I am thinking are from either an early 2006 run or late 2007 run just do not remember for sure.

I am starting five of the thirty seeds I have left as I plan a project with what is left if these prove viable.

Now I am sure most of you out there do not know that in those early days there was issues with germ rates on MD's PowerStout and Masterlow because of what we deemed to be either thicker shells due to whatever reason like genetics maybe the water he was using it was on the hard side. So with that being said it was advised at the time to scuff or precrack them so I found some 600 grit sandpaper and scuffed them along the ridge and placed in a cup of distilled water. With using such old seeds I find the process of soaking and papertowel method so I can watch them and after 5-7 days if they are not mushy I crack them and plant.

Well I was hoping to see tails by now on the scuffed seeds but nothing so I placed them in a wet papertowel and put in with some cuttings that I have rooting that is on a heat mat.

I checked them this morning and one had cracked and a speck of a white tail is showing but we'll have to wait and see because it could just be that the seed has swelled from being soaked in water and had cracked i'll check again tonight at about dinner time and if I see a tail that is going to be great.

Cool:

Talk about loving your seeds! Man I hope they grow for you!

Well there is one for sure up above the soil but it has not opened up yet and two others are about to break the surface so I am guessing the other seeds are going to be good.

I was just leaving so when I get home if it has opened up i'll post pictures.
