Indoor Minimum Height for Grow Cab

Hi Everyone,

I am planning a stealth cab grow and have a cabinet which is 58cm tall inside. I also have a 70W hps and am wondering if this is enough space to grow autos in 7.5 litre smart pots under such a light. I would lst them obviously, but have heard that lsting autos is not a good idea. Is this true?

Any advice would be great!

That's only about 24" tall, which might not be enough. Assuming your pot is about 6-7" tall, plus the size of the light, maybe another 5-6", and some space between the light and the plant, you might only have 8-10" inches left for the plant. Also, that's probably only enough light for 1 good plant. You don't list the other dimensions of your space but the general rule of thumb for HPS lights is 50 watts per square foot. Even if your space is only 2 sq. ft. you would need at least 100 watts.

I have never seen a hps with that low wattage,Just like Muddy says you will need more room and more lights.

I have 1.9 square metres so I'm 25W short. I've figured out how I can extend the height to about 85cm, so I'll just give it a try with the same light like that and if I need more light I'll figure it out then. I have a super spreader so should be able to get the light very close to the plants and with LST + diamond mylar, distribution should be pretty good. Hope for the best!

Although I might get a 50 W cfl bulb or something similar, come to think of it. how much would a bulb like that increase the heat in the cab?

i had a 2 foot cab growthing. its in my signature there. id say if you wanna do it youll need t5 ho single fixtures mine only took up an inch otherwise it probably would have been too small. that and lst and you might have a chance.

got decent results for the size etc. but if you can find something bigger im sure that will be alot easier and you will get more in the end.

i would highly recommend the extra 85 cm if you can do it. Esp with HPS, even with the Super spreader, that is going to put out some heat, I have a cab that is 1.80m tall and I found that without LST it got really tight really quick. Think about cool tubes, or the height extension or even both. Heat is one of those probs that when it appears you stuggle to deal with it , and it is too late to major mods to the cab with the plants in late flowering phase. Prep big now save alot of time later...

OK so thanks for all the advice guys, much appreciated. I have decided to modify the cab so I will have about 85cm in height and I will add about 50W of cfl too. My temps may run a bit on the high side but should be ok I think. I totally agree with making extra preparations first time round, but I am really pushed for cash so I can't buy a cool tube. I may get one later if necessary.

The only other question I have is regarding strain. I need something short and low odor. Obviously taste, potency and yield are important too, but the two limiting factors are size and smell. Any suggestions would be great! thanks again for all the input everyone.
