coir will hold less water than verm, but more than perlite. I grow a lot of plants in straight coir and it works well if you have a taller grow column. If you use pots that are wider than tall tho you might wanna cut the coir with coarse perlite or add a layer of perlite an inch or so deep to the bottom of the pot to encourage drainage and get more air underneath.

Sams crack looking (and smelling) so pretty. Had three mains so I shaped them out into a triangle. Looks neat.

Could you substitute small lava rock for the perlite?
