Old Reviews Molasses Question

I
Organic cal/mag...1 teaspoon epsome salt and 1 tablespoon molasses per gallon(4L) of water. I would mix that in between your feeds 1 time a week. Be careful, as the epsome salt can build up and cause lock out if you over do it!!

I don't mean to hijack the thread,...... But have question, I use House & Garden's drip clean which is supposed to dissolve salt build up in soil, would that also (within reason of course) mitigate any excessive use of Epsom salt?

Drip clean is a flushing agent. I wouldn't use it until the end of a grow at the first flush. If you use it durring a grow, I would use it sparingly in between a veg and flower(day 30-35) and at half strength. just my opinion on it.

Thanks, but there is supposedly more to drip clean than it being a cleaning agent, in fact the instructions say to use it at every watering and I got this advise from a another member who has used it extensively.

Qoute
One thing if you use it, make sure you start right from the beginning of the grow.... you can't start half way through.... you'll mobilise all the built up nute in the soil and overdose your plants.

The composition of drip clean is 0-18-6,and it supposedly makes nutrients stored as salt in the medium available to the roots. Nowhere on the bottle does it say it is a flushing agent like for example it says in the Flora Kleenex instructions. Anyways, started using it on 6 x HubbaBubba's that are 10 days old, so we'll see. I may actually try a little something..... There is 1 of the Hubba's with the first set of true leaves pretty rusty, I'll give it a dollop of Epsom salt, well, moderate dollop according to 1 teaspoon per 4 liters for the next 10 days together with normal feed and drip clean. After 10 days the Autopot gets "turned on" and the window of opportunity closes.

Should be interesting!

:smoking: Hi Vas' - yeah, molasses has a fair amount of Ca, Mg, K and a little Fe as well,... best of all they're in naturally chelated forms, facilitating easier absorption; there's lots of brands out there, but they're not all the same in these nutrient contents! Here in USA, two common brands are Grandma's and Brer Rabbit; looking at the labels, and the % daily values (dietary that is) of various nute's are quite different: Brer brand has about 3x times (by %) as much Ca and Mg, same Fe, as Grandma's... shows in the taste too! I love molasses, and I prefer the lighter, less earthy taste of Grandma's... Brer is much more earthy, heavy tasting, to my palate,... So I keep both around! :eyebrows: ... of course, the 'crobes dig the sugars, ramping up the nute' cycling in the soil, which in turn, indirectly, benefits the plant.... to the best of my learning, sugars aren't directly absorbed by the roots, and as such, molasses doesn't impart any flavor per se,... Another option I like, at the end of bloom, if I don't want any more nute's at all going into the soil, but want the 'crobes to get a boost to help clear out remaining free and soil-bound nute's, honey is a nice alternative,... I usually mix it in with a "flushing" agent, in my case, Sledgehammer, which is basically just the surfactant saponin, derived from yucca, I think,... these sorts of products help knock loose nutrient ions still bound to the media particles (part of that whole cation exchange capacity thing).... now this said, you need to be careful about not overdoing it, or going too late into the cleansing period with any carb' source,.. you still want the plant to be depleted by harvest, staggering across the finish line if you will,... our in house uber-guru JM has warned about how badly carbo-loaded bud tastes and burns!

Wow, thanks @Waira , it's just dawned on me how much I have learnt in the last few months. If I read the above 6 months ago , it would have been
:confused1: .. but that has all made sense :woody:. . I was wondering if you know about FPE's ? I am desperately trying to get an answer as to weather tomato plant tips are a good FPE for MJ during veg ? It's the only material around here I can get my hands on at the moment. Thanks again Waira :pass:
