Mephisto Genetics Moonijuana 4: Director's Cut (Hubbabubbasmelloscope)

So, the mystery seed I was trying to grow died as a seedling, leaving me high and dry for some time as I waited to get the funds to buy more seeds after my disaster. Thankfully, I was able to get my hands on some of those wonderful Mephisto seeds again!

I've really wanted to try out this strain, so it was a natural choice (alongside my personal favorite so far, Fantasmo Express). I've noticed it's a very popular and well-regarded strain from the Mephisto catalogue, so I'm eager to get her going! Here's the tiny girl now:

It's going to be a great grow! Naturally, after the rousing success of my Blue Dream grow, I'll be FIMing this one to get the maximum yield (and dare I dream of another BOM nomination?). The Mephisto website says she does well with training and can become a nice, large Christmas-tree shaped plant, so she should thrive after being FIMed. Here's hoping!

DAY 6

She's got her first itty bitty leaves, and is looking good! We're off and running!

I'll be aiming to break my personal best again, though it's going to be tough this time. I got a solid 63g on my Blue Dream grow, and I'd like to pull 75-80 and break the 3oz mark. It's tough inside a micro grow to get much bigger than I have been, but each time I learn a little bit more. My ultimate goal is to go over 100g on a single grow and break 2 grams per watt. I doubt I'll do that this run, but that's what I'm aiming for.

DAY 11

I took a quick peek at her yesterday, and she's doing well! She'll probably get her FIM trim on Monday, since that's when I cut the Blue Dream and it turned out great. Here's a couple shots of her so far:

DAY 14

I sterilized the ol' snippers and gave her a trim today. She's snipped and ready to explode if all goes according to plan. I'm optimistic this will work out well; once can be a coincidence, but twice in a row on two different AF strains will have me locked into FIMing all my future grows. Here's a couple shots of her post-cut:

She's looking super healthy. I can't recommend strongly enough a super-soil mix for ease of growing. It's unbelievable how easy it is to work with; just plant it and water it and you're pretty much good. Although she can be ready in 8 weeks, I will try to push her to 10 or 11 if I can for maximum yield. Time sure flies when you're growing! I can't believe it's already been two weeks since the seed broke the surface. Soon it'll be a lot more exciting to look at than just this. I know everyone prefers to look at the bud porn, and I'm betting she'll be a sexy sight when the time comes.

DAY 16

Let any final doubts be buried: FIMing is not dangerous to modern autos. She came back with a vengeance! Take a look for yourselves:

As you can see from the top down view she's already splitting up her top stalks, but another thing that I've noticed has happened on both grows is that this sort of extreme training forces the plant to freak out and turn EVERY possible branch into a potential cola: under the two big fan leaves just below the top, there's now two side branches that have started turning into colas (to compensate for the snipped branch).

Both her and the Blue Dream before her reacted VERY aggressively to this extreme training, which is a good sign for using it on autos: rather than losing precious time while the plant heals, it seems to power through the loss by going into an emergency growth mode to make up for it instead. In just two days she's noticeably taller and has thrown out budding sites on the side branches where before there was practically nothing.

Our auto girls aren't just more potent that people give them credit for, but apparently far more hardy than even many auto growers give them credit for.

DAY 20

Well, we're about a fourth to a fifth of the way there as we approach the close of week three! She's exploded vertically, but she's looking a little deficient. Here's a few shots for you to enjoy:

She's grown upwards rapidly since I checked on her last Friday, and I tied down four of her branches today to help keep her under control. She's a beast!! I'm very pleased about what this means for her final yield, since she seems to have shaken off the FIM cut even quicker than my Blue Dream did. It's impressive! We're getting into the fun parts of growing now; still no weed odor (just that chlorophyll scent of a young, growing plant) but I'm betting she'll be a stinker.

DAY 21

You've got to watch plants that need training carefully, and the same goes for sickly plants, so I checked in on her again today. She's already turning lightward from yesterday's training, so I tightened the ties and bent her horizontal again. Early diagnosis from the infirmary is Zinc deficiency; I'm not able to grab a zinc soil amendment until Friday (and waiting on advice for foliar feeding her zinc to combat this quickly), so I buried some galvanized nails and zinc-coated frame hangers in her soil. Hopefully that will help until I get this handled correctly (I initially thought it was a Sulfur or Magnesium deficiency, so I also fed her a nice drink of epsom salt fortified rainwater).

DAY 23

Well, she's responding super well to training and is clearly deep into veg. She's growing very quickly, putting on a lot of height just in two days. I've got her spread out and stretched to try and maximize the number of colas. Here's a few shots:

She's still suffering from a deficiency, but I'm thinking she looks better than the other day (could just be optimism on my part though). I'll be picking up a zinc supplement tomorrow to correct that since it seems like that's the issue (and leaving the nails in the soil for a long term fix), and I'll give her a foliar feed to try and correct it quickly.

Overall though she looks strong and healthy, definitely doing well. I'm very optimistic about final yields as a result.
