I was just wondering . If auto's breeding is such that they have a predetermined life cycle under normal conditions how does the plant benefit from the extended lighting (20 - 4 )??

Short answer, increased yield. The extra light allows the plants to grow bigger, produce more bud sites, and bigger buds. I don't grow autos outdoors anymore but when I did they were always smaller and yielded less than my indoor plants on a 20/4 cycle.
