Quick question for anyone who might have the answer...

Is there something special that you have to do at a certain point during the grow to see the purple jems go purple? Or is it just natural with good care? Will anything help with this process?

I've read that the purple color come through from either genetics or loweing the temp during the final weeks of floweing. The latter method being the most common. As far as i know tho, the color is for bag appeal and does not add to the dankness of the plant.

I read on another site that watering with cold water the last week or two can induce the blue/purple colors. I don't know any details but it is something you may want to look around for. Best wishes on finding a solution. :peace:

BTW, props on your grow so far. Things are looking great!

Good to know, thanks lads!

As far as color goes, I believe it goes beyond bag appeal. I've heard a lot of patients say that they get better pain relief from the darker colored buds... sometimes the bigger buds have darker sections to them, and patients have said that the darker parts work better for pain than the lighter parts of the same bud! Pretty fascinating stuff... I'd love to learn the relationship there between color and pain relief. I'm sure it's partly strain dependent. This certainly isn't to say that bag appeal has nothing to do with it. Who doesn't love looking at beautiful purply nurply nugs of medicine in their medicine jar?!?!

Great grow, Glad to see you growing the JEM for your 1st grow...
I think you'll really like this strain...
This is an original Mossy's JEM that came from ICmag test stock that circulated around the forum community through many growers.
It is stock from before the Joint Doctor bought it and bred it to make the purple pheno dominant...

Thank you all for the info and stopping by my journal its greatly appreciated. So NC420... is it safe to say that I could either end up with the joint doctor cross with purple or something more resembling Mossy's original with the normal green hue? And it is basically predetermined with no way of altering to the purple?

lookin sweet bro! the color is mostly genetics as previously stated... but temp swings from night to day of 15 degrees tends to bring it out more.... this can be accomplished by air temp... or usually more easily,,, cold water waterings.

thanks john...yea im going to look into the cold waterings towards the end of flower for sure. Would love to see some color!

word! well color karma sent m8! just remember there are genetic factors as well so you may or may not end up with it... dpends on the genetics of the particular girl you're flowering

Yep..as long as she looks healthy at the end, im GREAT! :D And I think that my yield requirements are rather reasonable as well. I feel around 15 grams would be a successful grow, but more is always welcome as well.
