Extraction My way of making BHO

So I made some mistakes this blast but I thought I would share how I make BHO with a heat purge. I messed this batch up cuz I decided to run a second can through it and half way through I pulled the can out which blew weed out and it landed in my oil, a lot blew out oops. The plant was an experiment anyways and I just thought it would make purple oil as some times the trichomes turn purple but that was not the case. My next batch should be good stuff.

First I heat a pan of water to fill a turkey pan with so I can float my pirex dish in to keep it warm for purging before I take it in the house. I also grind up the marijuana good and use 2 unbleached filters. You can use 1 but I like 2 just incase. I also use an oven mitt to hold the tube with as it gets cold.

Float the pirex in the hot water. Put something to insulate your grass with if doing it in the yard or you will kill your grass, ask me how I know.

I took this picture right after I set the tube down. I tried to get a pick as soon as the blasting was done so you can see how fast it has evaporated. I took this in the house about 30 sec later for purging.

Do not scrape up any oil it will get trapped. You want to first heat it up on low setting going around the pan. It will foam up like spit a little. After about a minute of this I start to spread it out with something like the tip of a dab tool or a tip of a razor while heating, spreading, heating and spreading. You should be doing this for about 10 minutes trying to get the liquid as thin as possible.

This batch I messed up and contaminated and only pulled 2.7 G from it as it was some bad buds. If done right you will have to heat the pan to get it on the razor and it should chip off the blade. I did not purge this that far as I ended up just tossing the oil due to it being contaminated.

Here is a picture of what it looks like with good trim and not contaminated with the purge done proper. Also if you don't grind your buds your quality will be higher but your return will be way lower. I have also found that 1 can is good for 1 ounce.

I was reading about oils in the infamous Wikipedia. Information form that source has to be checked and double checked.

What I found is that our material contains lots of THC-A, the inactive, acid form of THC. The wiki article says the carboxylic acid form, which is an inactive form of THC has poor solubility in solvents. Also, the carboxy-THC needs decarboxylation for being psychoactive.

Could the plant material be toasted in the oven for decarboxylation?
I don't care about terpens, if they are lost. I want to get the goodies out and to maximize goodies, it seems like a decarboxylation protocol should be designed.
