Hi All,

Could really use some help and advice. I’ve been a long time reader of this forum and usually use the “search” facility to research from the wealth of info on here but I need some direct advice on this one please. I’ve been growing auto’s for a while but am learning every run, however I’ve hit a “hermie” issue.

I’ve a Dutch Passion Autoblueberry under a SCROG at day 52 that has been going really well. I’m using an organic “water only” soil mix with Tropf Blumats and the growth has been excellent and stress free from a nutrient perspective. The plant is lush, healthy and smelling amazing!! I’ve probably 25 colas all fattening up but I was very sad to find “nanners” on a few of the colas……. NOOOOOOOOOOO!!

Now I know from my research that Blueberry is susceptible to hermie and this plant did get a bit stressed last week as my blumat became blocked (my fault) and so the soil became very dry. Other than that issue the plants are in a really stable environment. I hope I had got away with it but now the nanners now say nope.

My question is what should I do? I’ve only got 2 plants (other is a 60 day lemon) in a little stealth box so I can’t remove the BB to another location. I’ve read conflicting opinions, some say to pull it and start again others that I can pinch out the male parts and hope for the best? If the “stress” is removed ie watering doesn’t go wrong again will the plant settle back down to producing buds or will she keep on throwing male nanners? I pinched one out last night and cut it open and I couldn’t see any pollen but maybe it was immature. I’ve checked as well as I can (given the SCROG) and I’ve not found any “balls of doom” only the nanners in the buds. I was expecting to harvest her around day 75 so still around 3 weeks to go.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

Sadly I can't help you in anyway as I'm a newbie but I'm sure someone on here can give you a definitive answer from the wealth of knowledge on here...good luck lad hope it works out

I only had nanners once and all I got was about 10 seeds total out of 2 1/2 oz plant and the other 2 were not affected. I wouldn't worry to much but we'll see if 1 of our more experienced members has more on this matter

Thanks Guys, appreciate your input.

Elsamurai, that's encouraged me thanks, sure I could endure a few seeds if that's the damage! Did you pluck the pesky nanners off or just let them go?

Thanks again

I plucked off what I could find but a few got by ;)

Thanks again, I will get plucking when I get home!! My wife will get twitchy when she can't find her tweezers! Can you tell me what a "mature" nanner looks like, do they split open? Mine currently look like little bird "beaks" poking out, there are only 3-4 on individual buds.

They will grow to look like little bananas.

Thanks everyone, feeling a lot more positive than I did this morning.

I've just picked off the nanners, there were a few more buds affected than I had thought, more like 7 buds in all, two with a couple of nanners on. They pretty much look like the picture TaNg has kindly put up (thanks) maybe slightly squatter and fatter and a bit more yellow at the tip. Interestingly the are all sprouting from the bud tips, none from the sides that I can see.

I had a good look at the plucked nanners by eye and still can see no visible pollen, is this a relatively good sign? Is it similar to flower pollen or far less dense? Due to having a 5 year old who is mad about "bugs and beasties" at the minute I can't find my eye lens to take a really close look. Will have a hunt around this eve and find it.

Thanks again guys, I really appreciate your advice. I'm really pleased I stopped "lurking" and chimed in!
