Lighting need an answer on an auto lighting question

I recently put my 4 plants into flower I have an auto also wich is my 5th plant and that has been flowering for the last month im switching from a t5 18/6 to a 12/12 hps 1000watts will that be ok for my auto and is it a good thi g for it to plump up more.or am I hurting it for not giving it at least 18 hrs on? any help would be much appreciated.

18/6 or 20/4 is the best lighting for an auto, 12/12 will work and the plant wont hate you for it but it will not grow and flower at its best. How much you will " lose" in buds i cant say.

Auto's don't do well at all at 12-12. I'd say you could lose 50% of final yield.

It all depends on the genetics. What is the strain of your auto and, how much research have you done. There are a few strains that will take well to a 12 12 cycle and produce better results. But in my opinion a true auto should be between 18 6 and 20 4. I've been researching growing and breeding for just under a year now, with autos. My findings are unless you are in the same climate and geo map as the creator. You could get better or worse results. Im a northern person so i pick Dutch genes to grow. Or purples. Purples have a nice cold temperature threshold. But it all is a theory. Now if you could give the strain and company i may be of better assistance. and many more like me could further assist. No location just strain info. This way we get a better understanding of the genes behind what your growing.

As well he is right depending on your strain you could loose actually about 65% of final yield. Especially if its a bad gene. I won't list them as to not hurt feelings. But I've had a couple plants that grew extra huge under 12 12 and also have seen 3 to 4 grams under 12 12. . Practice and patients is your most valued possession when trying something new. And above all do not quit autos if your first run isn't perfect. I personally almost did but when I seen that 353 g TD I NEVER WENT THRU with quitting. And as a matter of fact my gma tried my new breed and said it was stronger then anything from the 60's. so just ask for advice practice practice practice. And genes play a huge role too. If you don't wanna reveal your strain just google it or read the description where you got it. This is my two cents.

Welcome to AFN there is no need to change the light cycle when Autos go into flower, Keep your lights at either 18/6, 20/4 or 24/7 and your be golden bro

Dude- if you don't have 2 chambers... Skip the photos from now on... Anyways, flip the switch to 12/12 and don't sweat it- you'll yield a hell of a lot more by flowering those photo than you will if you don't because of the single auto...

Yes your auto yield will be reduced- but it's no deal breaker. Other option is keep vegging til the auto is done and then flip em to 12/12.

Photo growing is very cool, to be sure-but what is this hobby for you? Is it a comercial venture , or just a way to get plenty o cheap smoke that you like? If so- 2 chambers- and do not screw with photos from seed other than to find a mom- clones finish way quicker and you can grow autos alongside your mom and rooting/vegging clones. If you are into the breeding/ gardening aspect, then growing photos from seed makes more sense- and you can go with one chamber and flip the switch ever two months- do your autos while you veg, then harvest those and flower the photos- and start over after that.

You need to get a handle on your own needs and style- then figure how the plants best fit your lifestyle.
