Well my question is more about my soil but,

What is your experience level? Beginner
Your Equipment:
.1) Type and wattage of lights. Hydrofarm FLCDG125D,125-Watt Compact Fluorescent Grow Light, and 4 compact fluorescent bulbs, 2 on each side
.2) Distance from tops? moved up to approx 6 in and about 6in on the sides
.3) Reflector type? Grow Light System with Dew Guard
.4) Is there a consistent fresh air supply? YES
.5) Do you have an exhaust fan and a circulation fan? YES
.6) What are the bulb wattages, kelvin ratings, and schedule? 20/4 (see above)

Your medium:
.7) Specific brand and type of soil, Fox Farms Ocean Forest and anything you've added to it. (perlite, 2tsp granulated lime)
.8) Size of container. approx 1.5 gal ?

Your nutrients and water:
.9) Source of water. (bottled that says it is RO) What's it's ph? 7.8
10) Method of checking water ph. (ph pen, CyberTech PHTester PH-107 Digital pH Meter
11) Method of adjusting water ph. ( PH Up, pH Down...)
12) Specific brand and N-P-K ratio for each bottle. List dosages (quantity per gallon) and current feeding schedule. ???????? FF tiger Bloom, FF Big Bloom, FF grow Big, epsom Salt, Molasses, So far I have only fed once I would have to look at thread to see how much exactly but very little like quarter strength, I did add some salt and molasses though just to make sure everything was ready for to start jumping. This is when I want to start feeding more but until I resolve pH problem, I figure why ?
13) How often are you watering between feedings, and how much per watering? about a half gallon of water per watering.
14) Any additives or tea's? molasses, Epsome Salt
15) Are your ph levels stable, or do they fluctuate? LOL Stable, Low but STABLE
16) What is your ingoing water's ph? in 6.7 out 6.1 your runoff ph? 5.5
17) Do you foliar feed? NO If so, with what, how often, and at what time do you spray?

Your growroom:
18) Indoors or outdoors? Indoors
19) What size of closet, room or hut? 32x32x62 tent
20) What are the temps and humidity levels while lights are on? 77-79...With lights off? 75 is lowest meter has read
21) Have you seen signs of insects in the growroom? NO

Your strain:
22) What strain are you growing? (Indica dominate or Sativa dom?) ??WEED??
23) Is this an photoperiod strain? NO
24) How old is the plant? 20ish
25) In what life-cycle is it? Vegetative I think, but maybe pre-flowering,
26) From seeds or clones? Seeds Norther Lights from Nirvana, FEM, Auto

My question is: from my first grow I knew soil had low pH, so I added approx 2 tsp granulated lime, watered and waited 9 days pH went from 4's to low 6 so I figured it was good to go, thinking pH would keep going up some more. But that is not happening, it seems to have settled in at 5.5, last 2 waterings soil pH was 5.5 now it looks like I have some lock out. what is best way to raise my soil pH. maybe dissolve some lime in water and pour it in ? Any Suggestions or I might have to make this post about my little Wilamina. :peace:

ye i`ve heard alot of people talk about lime. but you can also just get a ph up / down bottle at your local grow shop or something. prob the safest

I have a couple of questions. Why is your soil ph so low to start? Low 4's? Was this soil out of the bag or something reused? I am trying to wrap my arms around how it got to the 4's or if it possible your ph meter is jacked up.

You also said, that your water's ph in is 6.7 out 6.1 and runoff 5.5. So IN is 6.7 but what are you classifying as out and runoff? I assume you mean IN 6.7 Runoff 6.1 which means your soil is ~ 5.5? That makes sense.

Lastly, you said the ph of your RO water is 7.8. All RO water I have even seen has a ph out of the bottle of around 6. This is leading me to believe your ph meter is jacked or something is seriously wrong. I have never seen RO water at 7.8. Is there a chance you have access to another ph meter? If not, get some test strips at your local hardware store or pool supply company and test them against your ph meter. They are scientific by any stretch of the imagination but they will definitely read close enough to tell if your RO water is truly 7.8 or closer to 6 is my guess.

OK Thanks for the help and info.
Rebel I have pH up and down but, not thinking that is problem.
A420er yes you figured out my madness, I had 6.7 in. What I call run off is what drains out holes in bottom of bucket into drip pan. and it was 6.1 thus the 5.5
I was going by my senile memory on the bottle water pH so let me go check it and I will post it back on in a few minutes.
I do know for a fact what it is before I pour it in the plant, And also be clear that what I am calling RO water is (Where I work they provide us all the water we can carry it is only 8 ounce bottles with no label BUT I noticed on the cap it says it is filtered by reverse osmosis so I figured heck sounds like what the doc ordered I checked back then but now I figure I have to correct pH after I mix nutes so I just wait to check pH until I mix everything. so let me double check that pH. YOU are probably going to be correct.
As far as my meter being jacked, I sure hope not. I have been really pleased with it. I bought the calibration juice and I have checked it periodically and it has always been spot on.
As far as the Fox Farms Ocean Forest it was straight out of the bag back in December when I grew my first grow with SQUIDS help. I think the thread is still there, and we had pH problems from the start on it also. I poured whole bag into big plastic container and mixed in all the perlite. that was it So I went to shed and scooped out this gallon and a half but I knew from first grow to be aware. So I checked it and again this is my senile brain but I know it was like 4.7 or 4.8 I mixed in 2 tsp of lime and wet soil in bucket. The rest of this story is above) Will soil go low just sitting in a coverd container ? not air tight but covered ? OK going to check that Bottled water and BRB. Thanks for listening. :peace:

OK I checked 3 sources of water after calibrating pH unit. (I can't believe that even with my meter always seeming to be spot on, I did not check pH meter before I started this grow Stones slap I guess. LESSON LEARNED and it always seems to be the simple thing. It was .4 off on the high side And it was the last of my calibration juice. I adjusted down to 7.0 like the juice called for. Then I proceeded to check the water
RO 8oz plastic bottle = 7.5
Bottled water from Winn Dixie (Spring Water) = 7.6
Tap water = 7.9
meter was on high side that means what I put in was not 6.7 but maybe 7.1 and run off would have been 6.5 so 6.5-.6 = soil 5.9 if it works like that ???? patiently awaiting response from the Ganja Guru :peace:
PS: She is needing watering tonight or in the morning at the latest, soooooooo :D

Yep, that sounds a little better, now you are making sense except for the soil being so low. I know there are many people that have had problems with FF soil but I have never used it and my understanding was it was just too hot for seedlings. If you are correct, and the soil is that low. I gotta say, I would never use FF again. They are getting real bad on their quality control, I suppose that is the problem with getting too big too quickly. Anyways enough with my rant, let's see if we can't solve your problem. I gotta be honest though, all three of those reading on your water seem high to me. 7.5, 7.6 and your tap at 7.9. Normally you will see bottled water almost a perfect 7.0 and tap generally around 7.0 as well. Anyways, you have calibrated your meter, good! Always important to do this once a week, also rinse it off after testing nutes and store it wet with 7.0 solution. That will save your sensor from drying out and cracking. You also need to purchase the solution to clean it every few months. That will keep the buildup down and extend the life!

So, you put in 7.1 last time and runoff was 6.5. You are correct, soil was around 5.9. Here is the problem, you normally don't want to raise your ph too quickly but in this case you are pretty low for soil. You said you think you are seeing some lockout? I suppose your plants are showing signs of deficiencies? If so, I would flush your container with 3 x the amount of soil you have in there with your water ph at 6.6. So if you have a 3 gallon container, hit it with about 9 gallons of water at 6.6. I like to do it in shifts, say do 3 gallons first catching the runoff as you go and measuring it. Then do another three gallons, if you are hitting the 6.6 on the second three gallons then I leave mine there, if you are not then hit it again with 3 gallons. At that point, don't flush any more regardless. Then add your normal feeding at 1/2 strength back to the container ph'ed properly, just like normal, only trying to get about about 10% runoff then. You should be good to go.

I have been thinking about that FF while I was typing this and I think it may have been possible you got sold an old bag. As soil sits with nutrients in it, it slowly breaks down to salts which will lower the ph of your soil. Regardless, there is a lot of talk on this forum from the gurus about staying away from FF. I tend to listen when those guys speak, but that is up to you.

Keep me up to date on how things go, if you need a repsonse quickly, shoot me a pm. I am normally on here at least every 4 hours or so.

See ya,
A4

THANKS A420er
No more FF done, I might try the Lowe's mix I saw has been added since I became a student.
Get me some cleaner for pH meter and store wet.
I will ask a lot of questions later BUT, for now She needs water so I am going to flush as you stated then feed. Maybe Sunday I will have time to try and understand what this flush is doing, it seems like you are saying rinse out soil until almost neutral. But after that I guess the nutrients will give it what it needs going forward.
Thanks a million again I will Definitely keep you In the loop as how Wilamina is doing. maybe some before and after pics.
And when ALMOST anyone speaks on the FABULOUS A F N I listen. And you my friend are one of them.

Yeah man, basically you are trying to flush excess salt buildup out of the soil and get your ph back to a normal range at the same time. The salts is probably what is driving your ph down so low. Believe it or not, I normally flush my promix straight out of the bag before every grow. I didn't on the grow I am on now and guess what? 2 weeks in my ph was 5.9. It is up now but that is not how you want to start a grow off. Better to take the time to get your soil right before the seeds go in than to fight with it after they are growing.

AMEN. Well I think my pot is no bigger than a gallon and a half. and it took approx 5 gal. to get it at 6.7 in 6.5 out still leaves it low but 6.3 is better than 5.3 I had to use tap water and I let it set for about a half hour before pH'ing and pouring into plant. So I really did not want to put anymore tap water into plant. I am going to wait until tomorrow evening to give it some nutrients half strength with some bottled bubbled water is that ok ? I will pH feeding at 7.0 what do ya think ? I will post the pics I took right before flush and then in a day or 2 and we will see. BRB :peace:

sounds good, I would keep it at 7.0 for a while until you are consistently reading higher 6's on your runoff.
