Lighting new GN Units

copper/water heat pipes?

It's got to be something clever they've come up with that let's them convert more watts to light instead of heat, maybe a whole load of different things including copper cooling pipes that allows the whole unit to produce less heat over all.
It could be new types of polymer/organic lab grown semiconductors that naturally have the the band gap to produce a specific bandwidth of light (purer light for less power) instead of using the standard gallium arsenide to "convert" the initial light to the bandwidths we see in our panels! Too hot and unstoned to keep typing what else is flying round in my head :)

OLED???

This would be very cool! curved grow lights you can wrap around your plants!

Puts a big smile on my face this thread :)

Alllllll I know is, I'm excited and I will be purchasing one when I can afford to  :Sharing One:

OLED falls down when it comes to producing white light, unfortunately it uses at least twice the power to display white as it does black.
I have seen somewhere that because OLED is just in it's infancy problems like higher costs and shorter lifespan will be overcome quite quickly. With led's now following Haitz's Law (led equivalent of moore's law) and doubling in power and costing 50% less every 3 years (very rough sum up of the law) they are predicted to be outperforming standard led's by 2023 so strip growlights are coming, just not yet.

Not upto speed on oled but its common place in phones/tablets and medical lighting now. New light sounds about the same size as a tablet? Like I say really not my subject but the tech is out there being used on millions of units.

I didn't see that bit anywhere, seems a bit odd, you would need to make them incompatible on purpose as led panels/COBs are low power units that have drivers built in to regulate the voltage.

Yeah, I was pretty disappointed. I found THIS GUY on Amazon. But, I will admit it makes me nervous running two of these twenty hours a day in a small room attached to my living space. Not to say it would happen but I don't want to wake up engulfed in flames and GN isn't going to endorse using on of those babies.

Tbh I'd be the same, why run the only panel in existence(?) that doesn't run on 120v native! Especially since they apparently have a 120v version on the way which could possibly be outperforming the 240v version :)

Trouble is the UK runs on 240v and this is being built in the UK. Plus also maybe being voltage specific it will be more efficient only problem is that worldwide may take a touch longer but at least they are going to develop it for rest of world....... I think lol this is only going on my common sense and what ive heard
