Indoor new grower here!

Growing in Coco Coir is super easy, will give you hydro results, very hard to overwater, and gives you the advantage of being able to fix any ph, or nutrient issues quickly and easily like hydro.
I would go with some HID lighting starting out if you ever plan on expanding.
LED is all good, and great, but they cost a SHIT LOAD. To get results comparable to HID in a 4x8 tent you're looking at 2-4,000.00 JUST IN LIGHTS.
You can get 2 one thousand watt air cooled lights with digital dimmable ballasts for about 700.
You could also just buy a 600 watt with a digital dimmable ballast that would allow you to run at either 300-450, or 600 watts as you grow.
That would cost you about 200 bucks.

Definatley start with soil! Im a new grower and wouldnt attempt hydro after a few crops. If you mess up in hydro the damage can be massive!

I hear ye Man, but my first grow was Hydro. My yields have quadrupled every grow as I've gotten better.
There really isn't a lot you can mess up in hydro. If you can keep track of and adjust the PH/Chlorine strength in a hot tub then you can grow in hydro just fine.
Problems are quicker to show, but are exponentially easier to fix as well. Generally the only problem you'll have is CalMag when they switch to flower. Soil, or hydro.
I would think that bad soil ph, would be WAY harder to fix.
That's why I recommended Coco Coir.
Even the best soils will only carry you through veg, and then you're adding nutrients the same way you would with Coco Coir, but Coco will give far better results.
With the exception of supersoil type mix layered correctly. I think the odds are against the First Time Grower to nail that one on the head PH and all their first time around.
