Hello all, I am currently underway on my first grow and was curious about my watering techniques.. I have 2 -1 gallon jugs filled with regular tap water that I've let sit out for at least 24 hours with an air stone in them. Is this ok? I don't have a ph meter but my city water analysis says its around 7.1. Also should I dump any extra water out and start over every time or is the water ok to just sit there on the counter until I'm ready to use it? Everything seems to be ok for now but it's only been like 4 days since I planted the seeds and 4 of 6 have popped out of the ground so far

A little more info what kind of soil/soiless? Do you plan on using Nutes? Can you get a PH meter if I and five other people say it's smart to have one?

Bubbling the water and nutes will effect the ph. mixing older water with newer will effect PH.

If you want the best chance to succeed:checkph:

:peace:

regular tap water is fine as long as you leave it sit out for the 24 hours but your doing that so thats cool, leaving the airstone in there will help oxygenate the water which is a good thing also, your ph is running a bit too high you need to try and get it closer to 6.5, and give those other 2 little uns that havn't popped some more time they should show their pretty little heads soon enough. good luck on your grow

I'd still test the ph, even if you just buy cheap litmus paper strips ... I thought the same thing and got nute lockout because my ph was too high. My water company's analysis was about the same but that's an average and mine's closer to 8 than the 7 average.

Yes my bad, on abudget the strips or drop test are better than nuthin, Thanks Tremane

He said the water he is putting the city water which by the last report was 7.1, (which is pretty reliable in this city) NOT that his overall ph was that high. We like to listen as well as convey advice here. One of the better virtues, and the way to gain reputation is to know when not comment, as well as knowing when your comment will be helpful.

Thanks in advance for putting your best effort in that area from here on out.

And Tyler you should get a ph meter

I am using my own potting soil / perlite mix(about 2/3 to 1/3 perlite) and I plan to use nutes but don't really know what kind to use. Help please! Btw, I'm using nirvana seeds, 3 bubblicious and 3 jock horror under a 400w mh light sitting at about 12" above the plants. All 3 jock horrors have popped up and 1/3 bubblicious have popped up since this morning. I plan to add pics as soon as I take them and figure out how to upload them onto the site. I'm new to forums except for the past 5-6 months I've been reading thru grow logs The temps in my room are about 74 with the light on. I plan to put a floor standing fan in there eventually for air movement but I haven't gotten one yet.

What do you have access to nute wise? What have you read about? What are you interested in? We're all about helping and guiding. Give us something to work with and give us as many details as you can, then we can offer the best possible advice.

Your pH of 7.1 starting should be OKAY in a soil mix as long as the lime is amended well and your nutes are completely NOT acidic, (Like FF line).. unable to worry about nutes too much, have you considered the pH perfect line up? I think this would be ideal for you.. but, can you post your city water report or tell us the TDS/EC/PPM?

Are you on a budget for what you can invest to? What's the budget if so?

74 lights on is perfect, what's lights off? You don't want to stunt growth when the lights are out!.

I don't have access to any nutes locally but I can order anything online, I was going to go with the fox farms nute package and I'm glad I asked about it first. Where is a good spot to find the ph perfect nute setup?

I am balling on a budget so to speak, but I'm not afraid to spend in areas that need attention. I would have to say I could spend probably another $200 on this grow of needed.

I'm not quite familiar with your acronyms on the water quality, but I have the paper next to me if u could be more specific.

Also, my temps drop to around 68 with the light off.
